This bodes well for Crysis. I would think that they would only announce this if progress on Crysis was nearing completion, or very close to that.
UBISOFT ANNOUNCES FAR CRY® 2 The Legendary Shooter Returns to PC in 2008 Paris- FRANCE – July 19, 2007 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced that it will launch Far Cry® 2 in Spring 2008 for PC. Far Cry 2 is being developed in Ubisoft’s Montreal studio.
The original Far Cry® won PC Gamer’s Action Game of the Year Award in 2004. Since then the combined installments of the Far Cry® brand has gathered critical acclaim and numerous awards, and sold over 3 million units.
“Far Cry marked the beginning of a new era for shooters. An era of gorgeous graphics and of advanced artificial intelligence,” declared John Parkes, EMEA marketing director at Ubisoft. “We are confident that Far Cry 2 will have the same impact again on the FPS genre landscape.”

The website is alright, kinda laggy for me, but it's cool. Happy times!!
Good news! Thanks for the info. I wonder if they're using the same engine or the next gen cryengine2 by crytek.
I highly doubt they'd use CryEngine 1 [original FarCry game uses] for FarCry 2.
Here's an interesting read.
Going to be a completely different story, and no Jack Carver? What is FarCry without JacK?
Oh well, I'm sure it will be great anyway. And maybe a great storyline for some of the great modders of FarCry would be to bring Jack back to FarCry2. Now that would be cool! I might even be good enough by then to give it a go. Of course I know that this all depends on if they release the SDK for it. Ubisoft crying Far again...in Africa? - PC News at GameSpot
what would Farcry be without JACK ? Same as soldier of Fortune without John Mullins.
But seriously, i don't base playability on a single individual of a game.
I don't know about Ubisoft Montreal, they worked on Lockdown didn't they? If they did Vegas and GRAW for the 360 or PC, then I guess we're fine, but Crytek is the developer that did Instincts and the Original Far Cry. Evolution and Predator, and the other one (Vengeance I think), did not get ratings that were too high, and Ubisoft worked on them. They did do good on Pricne of Persia, and Assassin's Creed, but those are adventure like games.
You can't compare games from consoles to pc games. it is like comparing coconuts to kiwi fruit.
What about games that are near identical ports? I mean like UT3 will be for the PS3 and PC...
Even if the ports were identical. You still can't compare them because, they still aren't identical. Let me explain.:Puzzled:
Console games are written for a specific hardware parameter. They don't change. Your ps3 will be the same as my ps3 as the same as Omen's ps3 and the rest of the gaming forums. But on the other hand, your pc is not my pc. This changes everything. How the game runs, looks and soo on. Not to mention, I haven't seen many ports that follow the same story line even when they have the same name or namesake.
So at the end of it. Even when they port the games, they essentially are different. And usually play and act very differently.
It's like playing mortal kombat in the arcade, and then going home to play it at home on ps3 or ps2. While those games are pretty much the same, they are as different as Kiwi's and coconuts.
Gotcha. And of course, if patches are released, the consoles are outta luck on that front, ;).
