I ask because I read an article in Maximum PC about how a lot of people, including the author of the article, have problems getting their hands on the popular mods, maps and other goodies that the FarCry community has generated. I mean besides the great FF, where do you people go?

I am also constructing my own sub-domain on my website that will exclusively host the most popular FarCry files via FTP so it's easier for people to get their hands on them. I've been talking with Radcliff and a few other big names in the FarCry community about boosting my traffic and "becoming a bigger name" in the FarCry community and that's one of the things he suggested, hosting the big name files. This is not a plug, I want to know where everyone goes and if you've ever encountered those 404 Errors and Page Cannot Be Found messages while trying to get some FarCry filees?

So I'm thinking:

Crymod [meager file supplies, essentials mostly] Filefront [could only be found via search engines] Fileplanet [could only be found via search engines] FarCry-Maps [maps, a few small mods] FPSBanana [mostly maps, but a few skins as well]

Am I missing any?

When you go to a site, say you just bought this hot new game and you want to pimp it out with mods. And you go to Fileplanet or where ever, how do you pick the best mods? Do you filter it so only the most popular ones show up and just download like the top 10...what's your method?

I'm not just asking the ppl who post, but EVERYONE.

Ehh, I don't have Far Cry (yet, I plan on buying it VERY soon. It looks spectacular, and Crysis wouldn't work on my rig), but when I get a new game I usually go to Filefront, to see if it is 'supported', and if it is not, I google '**** + popular mods' or '***** mod sites'.

no what i do is i read what it is about (can take days to go through but it is worth it.) what it does, what new models, textures, gameplay, etc. and what people say about it. then i dl from an undisclosed location and play with it a bit with a test level i have. for instance, i thought i'd really like pandemie. i realize a lot of work was put into it but i was expecting more for 700 megs. so in short i was relatively disappointed. johnpp, if you can run far cry on the highest settings, you can run crysis on low settings but have it look like far cry.

Well, I'm still not downloading 1.7 gigs on 512KB/s. :p Even on Australian servers, I would only get around 60kb/s.
