Is it possible to somehow create a type of thrust to propel an object like the hang glider forward? Or better yet, is it possible to create a new model of an airplane and have the propellers react to the amount of thrust created by the player?

Or you could just make the wind resistance factor on the hang glider less and therefore it'd move faster.

You can import any model into the sandbox and give it entity properties like the helicopter or cargo dropper.

There does not need to be any thrust or wind going around for take off to occur. but you could generate a force that might knock the player around a bit, it'd be like an explosion effect, but without the damage to the player when the aircraft takes off.

I like you ideas, but I don't think they are along the lines of what I am thinking of. I'm not just looking to speed up the object, I don't want to make a helicopter (unless the physics involved in the helicopters from Far Cry are more like non helicopter airplanes than I think), and I want to try and create realistic take-off and landings. Would using the properties of the hanglider on a new airplane model, but adding a player-changable thrust and moving flaps work?

You could take the existing models like the helicopter and drop cargo transporter and add little things like the wing flaps and other details and then set them to animate when the aircraft take off/land. It's really nit picky work, but it could be done without much problem.

I suppose, but you'd be doing some tweaking here and there. The glider is a really simple script. A thrusting device like a jet pack would work a bit more opposite than the glider. The glider just slowly goes down and you can change those left/right directions but a thrust pack-thingy like what you want would be a bit more dynamic than that. Then it's up/down/angle/angle kinds of motion.

Have you explored the SDK releases? They have some dynamite information about modding and taking mods to the next polished steps...
