I'd like to learn how to make weapon skins and stuff like that, and I have not found a step by step intro anywhere!!! So, i'm asking you fine gentlemen, if someone could take a few minutes to go though how they made one of their skins, step by step (programs used etc.) so I can copy it, then go totally orginal from there, once I have the basics. Thank you. (ex. 1.) Do this 2.) Do this etc.)

1. get photoshop 2. learn photoshop 3. get the tools from the nvidia site 4. extract the original textures 5. learn to use the editor as a model viewer

That's it. Whatever you do, don't do these things out of order. Most people get photoshop and start "skinning" right away, resulting in a lot of "Hey ma! I can skin!" skins.

Okay, so, I have downloaded the plugin and extracted the objects.pak files, and now I have all of the folders, just like you said, I opened the M4 folders under weapons, and I see the DDS file, but Photoshop doesn't recognize it, even when I open PS with the DDS plugin!! I have Photoshop 7.0, not CS, does that have something to do with it?

I did it I did it!! lol, I forgot to put the plugin in the plug-ins forlder of photoshop 7.0's folder. But I did it now and I'm making my first skin YAY!

But still one question, why do the original skin files get smaller and smaller?

Crap, one more question, um, how do i get them to work in-game? I made a new skin out of fraggers black m4, using soda can logos, just for fun, and I made them into the following folders: zz-soda_gun_m4\Objects\Weapons\zz-soda_m4.dds\, then I used pakscape to put the main zz-soda_gun_m4 folder into a .pak file, named zz-soda_gun_m4, then put the .pak into FCdata, shouldn't that work?

i dont use a zipping program i make my own this is how ( i will make my de skin over ride the one in the game) turn on file extentions, then... make a zip file name it somthing like this zzz-userskin.zip, next make a folder named objects then in that make one called weapons ect till it looks like this: C:\Games\Far Cry\FCData\objects\Weapons\DE (yours may be diffrent). then in the get the modified dds file and put it in the last folder (it hasto have the same name as the original) then put the objects folder in the zip, then rename the zip to zzz-userskin.pak and your done now when you play your game you de skin will be diffrent. if you dont get what im saying just tell me or ask fragger :)
