I've been thinking of doing my own mod for sometime now and I think now is as good a time as any to start. First off, this page shows you my intentions for the mod, http://amerika.atspace.com/envy.html I've codenamed it 'Envy' until I figure out what I really want it called. I pretty much assume I'll be on my own [Why does everyone hate me? God, why?!] and I've given myself 1 year to start and finish the mod, so hopefully it will be enough. I'm not concerned about mapping or modelling [I should be] but I'm worried about animating the weapons, importing them, and then the introduction of AI into the maps. I've never done any SP mapping, so I think perhaps I'll model all the weapons, then do some trial SP maps just to get a better understanding of the process before I do it for real in the mod [and screw it up for real]. That's the plan and I'm very excited to work on it. I'm gonna be releasing D.M.P. 3.0, Soundpack 1.1 and the rest of my maps then I'll be 100% free to work on the mod. If someone wants to help with the mod, that'd be awesome.
T'is something great to look forward to! I hope you get any help that you need...maby hit Pille up, he's into this sort of thing. You could also submit a news post looking for help, there may be some takers there...
Thanks. I also wanted to mention news about the pirates mod. I'm frustrated with the lack of progress so I scrapped it and am starting it over, but solo. I've been modelling weapons for Envy and I have the MP5A2 and M4A1 Colt Commando done, and am working on the others so I feel I whip up some armada ships, get them coded and then I'm more than half way done [at least the hard parts would be over, :)] with the mod. I'm going to call it "Caribbean Red." No date on release, since nothing is really started, but when I get overwhelmed with Envy, I'll turn to CR and get somethings done for it.
I'm doing both mods solo because I don't want to depend on others [I feel I have enough knowledge and resources and time and most importantly DRIVE TO SUCCEED that I don't want anyone in my team that will slow me down.] and also I need a better sense of accomplishment in my life. Everything I do, I do it for others and that's not really what I want. The Pirates mod is for the community, Envy is for me. If people like it, yeah!, if not I don't care. :)
The Pirates site will be down while I re-work it to what I want it to be.
BTW: If I didn't make it clear, Envy will be for CrySis, not Farcry. Simply becuase CryEngine 2.0 looks so much better, and to me FPS games are first and foremost about graphics, so it'll be on CryEngine 2.0. But CR will be for Farcry. So there's still something for Farcry. :)
0ggy: Sorry you had to find out this way, but you've not been online to chat and you've not responded so my emails, so too bad.
Gotta do what makes you happy dude! It'll be interesting to see how they look when you get near to completion
