I got emails from the head designer on my Gmail account a few weeks back. From what I've gathered [they wanted me to help them but I don't have the energy for newbie modders that I used to, :(.] they were nearly done with the mod. But this is just my speculation; it is very possible another newbie team has fallen prey to the complexities of the CryEngine...

shame really... I hope the crysis visual scripting tools and stuff make it easier for teams to escape the pitfalls...

Yeah, but I think they'll be the same tools just "optimized" for CryEngine2. FarCry has a great map editor, but after that, there are few tutorials for scripting and modding [the SDK is far from great] and you really have to push and push and push to get anything remotely interesting besides maps done. My God, matto mods have been under development for over 3 years before the "mods" started to come out from those guys. And a lot of their stuff is community-recycled, not all of it is 100% original. There are still a lot of new modder teams being created for FarCry, but only a handful of people in the FarCry community are skilled enough for the scripting, animation, etc that are the essential parts of making a successful mod.

It's sad, it really is. However, I doubt Crysis will have better modding tools. You ask over on Crymod and they just laugh at you and tell you to try harder. It's like cutting a brick with a wooden chisel when you need a metal one, it's just so hard sometimes. That's why I really admire people like FlameKnight7, Matto, Vok, Ani, and Radcliff, they push and push and get some things done that are fairly remarkable. I've been trying to "mod" for FarCry since it's release and all I have to show for my labors are some crummy maps. Oh, when inspiration, good intentions crash when reality and no help from the community sets in, it really hurts a fella's sense of accomplishment and will to continue. But that's just me rambling on...

Wow well stated, there is a good dude on crymod, jak carver he's helpful. i think i'll just have probs with scripting and uploading. ha ha yea right. You made some maps? which ones, i'd like to see and play! the worst thing of far cry has to be the planting of grasses. that is the worst part, it took me a week to just widen my brush and start painting.

Thats because MGM shut them down nearly 2 yrs ago, same goes for the Star Wars mod and also Starshop Troops. We all would love to see these mods through to the end, however, if you want to tread a tightrope with copyright, expect someone to shake the rope every now and again. N88tr, thing is, the community is 3 yrs old and most are now holding off doing anywork on CE1 because of Crysis. We try to stop the sarcasm etc that some experience of Crymod, but its hard to monitor the forum 24x7. Fortunately, some members dont appear to be around anymore that did that, and with people like Shining, PlatunumGold and now RadCliff, helping myself and Alex moderate the forum, we hope that guys like yourselves come back.

Bloody C++ ing Hell

If only the scripting and animation were easier to mod, FC would attract more talent like Source has.
