I downloaded the Farcry demo (There is no way I'm downloading the Crysis demo...), and I love it. I'm thinking of buying the game next time I go out.
The game runs perfectly (or what I would call perfectly) on my PC, with a Radeon 9600 (Gecube - whatever that means. :p). However, when I try running it on my brothers PC, it works alright but the terrain doesn't look nowhere near as colorful or nice as it does on mine. I'm thinking this has to do with my brothers graphics card, which I'll post soon enough (I don't remember, and he's too busy playing Tremulous to help me right now).
I'll also try to get some piccies up of my brothers error soon.
Ahh, to late to edit. :(
My brother has a nVidia Geforce 4 MX 440 with AGP8X (copied from his control panel, so don't laugh at me for not knowing what the AGP8x means. :p). Here are the pictures, showing the differences between our PC's.
That's my PC.
That's my brothers. :uhm:
Yes it's the videocard, the GF4 MX440 does not use directx9 to render images while your card does. Directx9 makes that pretty water. This is why your brother sees a flat texture. About the distant Textures: Again the videocard is to blame, a GF4 is to slow for this game really. Thus you get those crappy distant textures to make up for the low speed of the videocard.
Ahk, that must also be why his runs a lot faster.
Ok, when I upgrade, I'll upgrade his too.
Get a new PC altogether, I'm not sure but 9600 uses PCI slot, and no card that use that type can handle crysis very well.
He wants to be able to run FarCry... not Crysis "There is no way I'm downloading the Crysis demo...". What you said is true though, he won't be able to play Crysis very well, but that is not the point.
And Radeon 9600 uses AGP.
