after I read the article about AAO on ABCnews.com I was completly FURIOUS. I actually sent them an email about it and it took me almost 30 mins to write. This is the biggest piece of crap that I have ever read in my life.. here is what I wrote to them. Let me know your opinions, and I would recommend that you send them a little something too. And while I have nothing against GTA3 and 4 it is refrenced in the letter I wrote. And I laughed my head off when he told me what he did with the motorcycle in GTA4

To Whom it may consern:

This is in response to the article about the America's Army Online game that the military put out. I myself am a 26 yr old male that has played video games since I was old enough to play video games. From Doom to Duke Nukem to Grand Theft Auto 3. So I know how violent video games were and have become in this era. I know that games that were violent 10 yrs ago are tame compaired to todays standards. My problem with the article is that the game doesnt actually "train" a person. You(the player) dont actually learn how to sucessfully fire a sniper rifle. You do learn to point and fire. Your not told that if there is a cross wind you need to adjust your aim. Nor the fact that you have to lead the target. Or that you have to ajust for the Drop of the bullet. Also... The fact that the military is using this game to recruit teens into the military. From the VERY START of this game the military has said "WE WILL USE THIS GAME TO RECRUIT PEOPLE." They NEVER denied that. There was a whole article in PC Gamer Magazine(I think it was May or June issue) that the military would focus on making the game realistic at first and then start working on taking the stats of people online and start recruitment of them. I myself was medically disqualified from the military due to having epilepsy, or I would be in the military right now. I believe everyone should serve thier country. For you, the media as a whole, to take this stand on a video game like this because of the sniper shootings in the Beltway(and thats what this is REALLY about) is absolutly ABSURD. Also, I would look at other video games that are EXTREME. Nowhere in the media have I heard anyone talking about a game that is comming out called "BMX XXX" and as you can guess, there are naked people and characters doing other obsene acts that should not be seen by anyone. Or, you could have chosen the game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, where in one instants, one of my friends described stealing a motorcyle from someone, running him over while popping a wheelie and also mowing a cop and a pedestrian down with 2 uzi's. Or maybe you could have picked Unreal Tournament 2003. Where in one game I shot another player in the head with a SNIPER RIFLE and his head blead for 10 seconds before it stopped. Oh.. and for your information, when you shoot someone with a sniper rifle in Americas Army, the only thing that happens is a small puff of blood for a split second. Not alot of gore at all. I think you guys need to look at what you investigate, and maybe take things a little more seriously. I know you like pick on the government for things it does, but when they are trying to do things like recruit people for the military so that we have basic things like our FREEDOMS, you jump all over them. In closing I think you need to really look at what you people are investigating and take it more seriously. The military has done a good thing in giving the teens of the SUPER-INFORMATION ERA something to inform them what what the military has to offer. I think that alot of good can come from this game as far as a recruitment tool goes. Again I say that the military NEVER hid the fact that it was a recruitment tool. I just want to thank you for your time and patience with me on this issue. Thank you very much.

Lol, gj soldier.

FACT #1

The moron that wrote the article prolly got his ass kicked in high school. He sought redemption through AA:O. After getting OWNED many times over, he wrote the article. What a whining n00b.

"The game violence" ...blah blah blah...

"What about our children" ...blah blah blah...

"How could the Army do such a thing" ...blah blah STFU!

No offense to anybody, but AAO is not the most violent game by far. Can you say GTA4?! It made it to the fourth installment (which I have

 ), but did GheyBC write an article on it? No!

I wholeheartedly agree. Though I am a minor, I am at least smart enough to realize killing innocent people is wrong. These things get you life or lethal injection. Heck its the friggin 6th commandment! Right between honoring your parents and not being an adulterer. Really, first and foremost this game is more a cathesis from every day life and a RECRUITMENT TOOL. They'll probably abduct the top 10,000 players and turn the into elite security forces LoL! Anyhoo, I support your letter and hope they heed our pleas for justice.

I am glad that I have a bunch of people supporting me. I was really worried that people who loved GTA 3 and 4 would be really mad at me. And I wasnt trying to take anything away from the GTA series but there are alot bloodier games out there and games that teach you more about military tactics than AAO. after thinking for a while I guess I could have put anything done that had to do with the Tom Clancy games(of which I am a big fan)

Heck yeah, there r truck loads of games that offer nothing but gore and mass killing. AAO is a recrutment tool just like it has been privously stated by many ppl, and understood by all who play the game. Also, there is a difference between games like the GTA series, which i am a fan of, where u kill inocent ppl. In AAO the opfor is a valid target beause of their opposition to USA and its allies. Also in most missons the opfor is the US army and they represent the opfor in a training mission using MILES, where no actual killing happens.

Anyone who gets mad at you for thinking that GTA3/4 is a lot more violent than AA:O or that GTA3/4 is ALL ABOUT killing probably shouldn't be playing GTA3/4 lol. The entire game is to see how many ways u can kill a person...hehehe

I dont think its just about how you can kill a person.. I know unless I accidently run over someone or I am forced to kill them I try and see how low I can get the body count... Though of course the cops are fair game when I am trying to evade them. Oh.. And blowing cars up is cool too :) lmao

Geez, you know, in the military, you might just HAVE to kill somebody! Or maybe they want us to go to "counseling" with Osama bin Laden so we can get our feelings of hostility off our chest, cry some, and have a group hug?
