actually, during WWI if you stuck a guy in the chest, there was a rather large chance of breaking the bayonet off. if that didnt happen, a chest poking would require great force (and time, as Xenomorph said) to pull back out. they were told to jab at the belly. since that wasnt always the best/easiest option, many just used their spades. they were sharper and could cleave a man about halway through the torso...in other words, he aint gonna shoot/hurt you or anyone ever again.

bayonets are still issued. the new highly sophisticated Landwarrior system (i think thats it) even has a place to fix the bayonet...so in other words, when the battery on that thing goes out and you cant use all the gadgets, you got a rifle and a nice little poker to use :D

dead_fred i saw the new gun u r talking about. they are gonna have one with a time elapsed 20 mm mini grenade. that's crazy.. i also heard the helmet made a decent weapon. LOL

man, the gun itself if huge, ccourse i have seen two diff concepts of this new system (one was History channel, so its not quite legit ;) ) onne was an m4 with a TON of gadgets on it (plus a bayonet!) the other was a completely different gun, never seen anything like it, but it still had a dang bayonet, lol

I learned that little piece of history watching "All's Quiet on the Western Front" (origial black and white version, with sound). Classic movie. :thumbsup:
