Well as the topic says I get constant crashing in Forgotten Hope. At times the game will run for 2 hrs and I will be "Thank you god". Then at times I will play 5-10-15-20 minutes then it will just crash to desktop leaving the enemy a free Tiger,Tiger II,IS2 tank. Which makes me feel bad for my team cause I crashed. Iv told my friends of this game and from there answers they also get crashing to desktop. My one friend says hes lucky if he gets in any game because sometimes it crashes during the load. I was just wondering with a simple answer will this crashing issue be fixed or possibly reduced within the next FH patch. Iv seen some threads of going try reintalling FH cause maybe you did something wrong. So I go okay i'll try that and obviously as stated in the above paragraph I crash no matter what. Then my friend tries installing WinXP Home Edition on my PC besides never actually getting to my desktop with it we totally reformat the HDD. Okay fresh install of Win98 <3. Iv heard that the unistall of BF1942 and reinstalling everything all together could possibly work. Okay I tried that and still sadly I still crash. So about after I say 3 month I finally some to the forums to ask this. Im just so tired of the crashing that sometimes enjoying something I do becomes nearly impossible. Just please for the love of God please let the crashing be fixed in the next patch! For the thought of it I will throw my Sys Specs at ya. AMD 3200+ Barton Creative Sound Audigy 2 Radeon 9800 XT Sapphire Nforce II Chipset (Mobo) ThermaleTake PC 4000 (500 MHZ's) Yes I didnt research enough that AMD can only support PC 3200 :P 450 Watt powersupply dont remember anything else about it. My friends always though ATI's drivers would probably be the #1 cause of the crashing so maybe someone would like to answer that also. -Duo
1. Have you enabled punkbuster? 2. Your hardware is excellent, but do you have enough air? All that can get hot=crash. 3. Is it only FH who crashes and does vanilla BF work? EDIT: and its not ATIs drivers (if you have catalyst 4.4 it should be enough)
make sure that before u installed .61 u deleted the .5 FH folder FIRST
1.Yes PB is enabled 2. Yeah I play other games also but they rarely crash. My PC never reaches more than 45C cause its just like that 3.Once FH came out I couldnt stand looking at Vanilla BF ever again. Even seeing "BF1942 screen" I get sickened :( Well since I reformatted .5 wasn't on the PC so the answer is .5 never existed 0.0 And I didnt here about 4.4 im on 4.3 so I'll try those out Edit: 4.4 so far seems to be only for XP maybe other versions of windows. Im on Win98 so I can't get them :/
erm, you have a rig that good and your running windows 98........
why do you run windows 98? You cant even utilize the full "power" of your can right now with win 98.
I do suggest getting win XP, yesterday would be fine.
Well after my friend installed a version of XP Home Edition I swore an oath that if he installs XP Pro on his computer I would wait a good hefty time before id reformat again. Playing on his computer XP isnt a + for me. That mouse acceleration thing whether its on or off bugs the crap out of me. Win98 works fine for me at the time being. Once I can trust WinXP is worth the install then i'll probably use it.
But I still dont see why I need XP. My computer at the moment is good enough for me. Runs all games at max graphics hardly any FPS lose (thats if iv been playing heavy gaming) But oh well maybe the .62 with some blue moon miracle will save me :/
hm... I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone in dev has even checked out FH on Win 98. I know the announcment that Microsoft was no longer supporting that platform was enuff to make me install XP on my last and only win98 notebook.
As far as mouse excelleration?... thats 100% adjustable in the mouse properties. You can even use the legacy 98/2K look and feel of XP to make you not even know you are in XP. I mean by disabling all of the XP effects, buttons, etc... Tho system is totally customizable. I'm an old dinasaur myself that came form the DOS age (actaully CPM, before Bill graduated from high school), so I run XP like that myself. So far I've been real impressed with XP and how stable it is.
Like you found out yourself, lot's of refernce drivers will not support Win98. So to get all the latest drivers, dlls's, etc that FH has been tested on, I really would consider the upgrade. If not for game stability, for security at least.
Another thing with win98, larger memorys tends to be disabled in win98 (512 seem beeing OK but higher amounts can be a problem in win98) EDIT: Yep, Rad i remember myself creating polygons in CPM as a kid ;)
