i just tested the flame thrower sherman on iwo jimo alone on the map. drove around a little bit .. i really like how the fire looks and its spread damage. but then the final test ... i fired on the ground in front of the tank ... jump out of the tank and ran into the fire ... but i did not take any damage ... i simply ran through the fire without getting hurt ....
yes well, flame thrower acts as a projectile just like every other ammo. So the actual stream has to touch the player to create damage. I was inside a bunker in Iwo Jima and some nasty Sherman POA came to capture the flag. He noticed me peeking out of the bunker and spread the furnace inside the bunker, but i survived without a scratch when i was in one of those small side rooms. Call it a bug or not, its a bit hard to create in BF anyways. :(
but on some maps there are fireplaces where you get damage when you touch them ... the fire of he flamethrower should act the same way ..
maybe the fire place does damage cause its stationary but that would be nice, i ahvent noticed thoguh cuase i keep gettin killed hehe

um.. no
The Flamethrower works like a MG firing HE rounds. You can either hit the guy directly, or let the "blast" kill him. That for the person to be killed has to see the real impact, if there is a wall between you and the projectils hit, you are safe. There is a very simple reason the actual flames don't hurt. To archieve this, the flames would need a collision model, like the campfire. That would mean, the flamethrower would be spitting out collision faces in hundreds, which isn't exactly wise performance wise. (BFs main lag problem is collisions). Just imagine the flamethrower producing a vehicle every two seconds.
that would be cool .. do it .. :naughty:
It works in Battlegroup 42 flames on the ground do damage and they stay on the ground for about 5-10 seconds before dissapearing, their flame effects may not look as good but it From what i hear over on the BG forum there is very little lag online, and and there is little in the way of fps rate doesn't slow down too bad on sp eitherworks a lot better than what i'm hearing of the FH flamers. From what i've read on the BG forum there is very little lag online, and it doesn't slow down too bad on sp either.
