Noticed this now on a few occasions.. It seems impossible to hit the infantry riding/hiking on the back of tanks. On Mersa Matruh i came across 3 guyz riding on the back of a Panzer.. I sprayed them good with my tommy gun but saw no hit indication and did not kill any one of them. I had good time and almost emptied out my mag. The tank was standing still, so no movement of the target. Eventually one of the infantry noticed me and jumped off and killed me instantly.. The other time I noticed this very well was on Bardia. A Cruser tank with a hiking infantry stopped just as it passed my position. I took good aim on the infantry with my K98 and shot at his head, at very close range. I had very good time to line up my head shot. I fired and got no hit indication and the "victim" was untouched. He moved position on the back of the tank and I aimed again to give him another fatal bullet.. But I didn't hit him second time either! So.. there is something fishy with the infantry riding on the back of tanks. I normally would not fail to at least get a hit as described above. I hope some one else can confirm this or I must just accept and learn to save my bullets on riding infantry on the back of tanks.. ?

Odd... I have killed riders quite often. Must check on this. Thanks for the info.

I know that firing HE shells at tanks kills the riders. (scrolled through ammo types too quickly)

HE is probably killing by splash damage.. But my claim is regarding hand held small arms firing bullets of smaller caliber

I've noticed this a few times that it's alot more difficult to hit and kill somebody on the back of even a stationary tank.

Ok.. Hmmm.. so not just me with this feeling regarding the infantry riding on the tanks! Could it be that hit boxes are not in line with the visible player model in game when they are riding on the back of tanks? I haven't noticed the same with infantry riding in/on trucks or jeeps.. I have "easily" killed drivers and passengers with one shot from rifles.

It would be interesting to see if the soldier's keep their own hitbox on the tank, or whether the tanks have infantry specific hitboxes that kill the rider on it. They could be misaligned, too small, etc.

I have sniped a few people off the back of tanks, but there are times where It does feel like I should have got them but didn't. Might depend on orientation of tank.

This is a physics problems, the same thing happens like in the Pirates mod when you add ladders to the sides of the ships. Pieces of the Character are moved around in different ways, In this Case even tho its a seat, it seems that the hitbox is being ripped from its position as the tank is moving, not allowing you to hit him every time. BF2 is not know for its inertia physics...
