so ther is no way to conect right to another player via say there ip address. Me and my brother want to play a game together but gamespy servers are down so most other games let you put the other persons ip addres in and play agains that person

it doesn't seem that way. that makes me very sad. to play a game on a lan, you can click lan game, but i believe you need IPX installed (checking manual)

Oh, it's not in the manual. Must be in a readme.

Correct, you need IPX installed. Its VERY simple to install though. Usually not requiring even the Windows CD.

would anyone in shiny mind explaining why there's no direct IP play support? please? I can't understand how a game released near 2001 cannot have direct IP play support!! -sigh- i have a theory that it's all part of a big "cd-key verification anti-piracy scheme" - don't let people play on the net unless their "papers are in order"? but when gamespy goes down (like it did last night for a few hours), what is one to do? is there anything in the works for adding (or should i say enabling, since i'm sure it already exists in the code) direct IP support? thanks

Well I have ipx installed and we can not play on my local LAN. I have 3 computers all connected via win2k server with the other 2 using win2k pro. We have no problem playing the game but we can not LAN at all. Any help in this?

I had the same problem. My friend and i tried to play on the LAN and we both installed IPX, but it wouldn't work. i don't know why. IPX is always doing some wierd stuff that is hard to fix. TCP/IP is easier to troubleshoot.
