This is probably already known by devs, but couldn't find a topic about it on this area.

There are few maps, with more dense fog than average, Foy and Stalingrad (Volga river landing) come to mind after short thinking. The fog plays a very crucial part in the gameplay of these two maps, reducing the visibility for both teams to create an assault-defend setup.

Unfortunately there is this way to completely remove the fog, which gives a huge advantage for individual players, as they can see many times farther than the enemy.

Today I tested it on Foy. Phew, I could have wiped out the whole axis defenses with one of those stationary .50 cals, but to keep myself on the server I played the rest of the round as I would have had only the normal visibilty. However, I was sniped by some glitch abuser's stationary (window) MG42. In no way would he have hit me with the first burst, since I hadn't even fired no rounds that could have given my position away.

Being an honest player, I don't abuse these glitches, but many others seem to.

Is it a completely BF engine related prob, or could it be fixed?

I assume you devs are aware of this already. However, if you are not, just PM me.

Just wanted to post this .. I was playing today on Stalingrad and got called a foghacker. When Im on the allies' side, near where the Arty spawns, I can just make out some buildings on the other side of the Volga. With the sniperrifle's zoom you can even make out 2 MG posts and the flag itself thus making it possible to snipe anyone that mans the center or right MG. (look at the pics to see what I mean). I have never used any kind of hack nor will I ever use one .. this is the way the map appears on my screen. Nothing was altered this is the straight map from the FH installer. If this is an illegal tactic I want to sincerily appologise for it to anybody I might have done injustice with this. Illegal or not .. I will not do it again thats for sure .. dont wanna get banned from my fave server and fave mod :( And my appolagies to the guys I pissed off with this, sorry guys :(

Dont worry...

If we suspect someone is using this on wolf we will review their PB screenshot and if it shows that they used it...

Banned permanently.

I must admit I don´t know about this bug/exploit, although I have heared of it before.

The only thing I noticed, is that sometimes it seems you can see further on the side of the screen, than you can in the middle. So you might see something move on the left side of you view, but if you try to aim at the target, it suddenly disspears into the fog and you can no longer make it out...

Banned permanently.[/QUOTE]And you just missed my point entirely :uhoh: ! If you know how this bug gets enabled, you will know that it can be enabled completely by accident when the player does something very legitimate and common (if you don't know, PM me, and i will explain how exactly this works by using a very legitimate BF operation). And if the player is new to the map, he won't even notice what happened! He will just think that the map has little/no fog. Don't get me wrong, i am in no way defending the use of the this bug. I am defending the poor unsuspecting pubber that accidently enabled it by performing an operation provided by the game iteself. You are saying that you will perma-ban someone because the game activated a bug on his behalf?! However, i understand the need to control this bug, which some will be using intentionally as an exploit, so here is a weak solution (but nonetheless better then perma-banning an innocent pubber): The thing about this bug is the fact that it's a bug, not a cheat. And it only get enabled after that certain legitimate operation, and it stays in effect only for the duration of the map. Once the map changes, the bug is corrected. Considering that the operation that triggers the bug is not performed at the start of each map, it's safe to say that if someone enabled it by accident, then although a PB screenshot on first map will show no fog, the PB screenshot on the next map will show fog. The only way to tell if that player is intentionnaly using the exploit is if screenshots on consecutive maps both have no fog. That's the problem of BF's FoW (Field of View). Imagine a RL's FoW as a slice of a circle, however, BF's FoW is a long triangle with two sides equal (dang, forgot the propper term), rather then a slice of a circle. Now in the slice, the distance from the point (your eyes) to the circumfrence (edge of visibility range) is the same throughout the slice (aka the radius .... hmmm sounds like a geometry class  ). But in the triangle, the distance from the point of contact of two same-length sides (your eyes) to the side of the other length (edge of visibility range) is not the same throughout the shape. It's longer at the sides, and shortest in the middle. That's why in BF you can see further with the corner of your eyes :naughty:

First I want to say that I don't use a foghack or any other cheat just like hydraSlav mentioned it's a bug in the game/map/mod whatever!!! I've never used this in a mp server though. Pic 1 Fog as you can see attachment.php?attachmentid=8058&stc=1 Pic 2 Fog is gone attachment.php?attachmentid=8059&stc=1 Hope these screenies give you an idea about the exploit, we need to get rid of it!
