Soldier of Fortune 1. I got this game four years ago, and I never regret playing it. It is 56k friendly, so bad connection isn't too much of a problem although you will be at a disadvantage. Nice graphics overall, not too realistic for people who hate too much realism. Good game.

HAlf-Life and its various mods, if you can find a server with less than 10 people in it, is fairly 56k-friendly thanks to its age. Jedi Knight 2 was OK too, but again, you have to find a server with a handful of people in. Jedi Knight 1 is fine. Age of Empires 2 is great online. Freelancer isn't too bad, but you really need only a few people in a server for that. Empire Earth was OK if you had a private game. Best of all was Stronghold and it's direct connection to the other persons computer, overcoming the internet -- least laggy game I ever played.

tribes 2 works pretty well on a 56k, if you can stand to sit for around a year while the damn thing tries to update itself lol :p

Lol, on hearing that I'm going to assume that it's different for everyone. I could go into a usually fast, completely empty dedicated MoH server and still have a ping of a thousand or more. Then I would go into JK2 servers with five or six people in and have a ping of a hundred

I guess, then, Seaners, you'll just have to experiment. Maybe try some demos or something, if you don't have many games at hand. Or borrow them from friends, perhaps.

If you could buy that nice of a computer, couldn't you afford DSL? Its really worth it.

Age Of Mythology and The Titans does NOT work well with low speed connections. Shadow Flare does so long as there aren't many monsters, players, or items on the map.

Some people can't get it. It's a common misconception amongst the broadband users that everyone who isn't on broadband is a cheapskate. Especially so if Seaners lives in Britain, where broadband coverage is very poor. If you don't live in a broadband-enabled area, you can't get broadband without moving house I'm afraid. Broadband only became available where I live December 2003, for example -- just need a solid income and a computer worth installing it on and I'll get it.
