When searching for threads which I or others have participated in, I often end up with a "404 Not Found" error when clicking the thread from the search result. Does anyone know what the reason for this is? If it is due to removed threads, how come I am even able to find those threads in the search result? Shouldn't the index be updated when threads are deleted?

The last thread I tried to access was named "Moderators Killing Threads?"....

------------------ The end of the world is located in Norway and is natively called "Verldens ende".

The UBB needs to be re-indexed from time to time to clean up that kind of stuff.

If this happened automatically every time a post or thread was deleted (some UBBs allow users to delete their own posts and threads) it would probably create too much of a load.

I'm not convinced that's going to happen anytime soon. This UBB seems to be barely moderated at all. I guess I'm just used to Joe reindexing every day.

Verdens Ende: You typed it in Swedish, not in Norwegian. Nobody write Världens ände in Norway. So where are you from?

Also: From old norse mythology, we remember Ragnarok to be the end of the world. Verdens Ende, on the other hand, is better translated into "The Butt of the world"...

Ragnarock smile.gif Nice place to chill off!

And I doubt this dude is swedish. Because if he were, he would know that Norwegians don't write Swedish smile.gif

I know a buttload of languages like my own pocket.

GearBox. I do not doubt your claim of the spelling as I might very well have been mistaken. I was traveling in Scandinavia (and Norway) this summer and came to this little place which a Swedish friend of mine translated into Världens Ände. This might explain the typo. I just loved the translation I got "End of the world" :-) As for the translation, I believe both butt of the world and end of the w. would be viable, depending on the context in which they were used. (ie. I will follow you to the end of the world...)

I hope you didn't take offense, none was meant.

P.s. I will remove the sig, since truth be told, I am stationed in a neighboring country to Norway at present, which unfortunately doesn't have a cool place like Verldens Ende (at least none which I have found).

Quite a fascinating explanation... No, I am not offended, why should I?
