Well, what would they say? Would that automatically let the mortars find their target or what?

Duff_Man_in_CADPATsit means that you are sent in 2s, One sniper, one spotter, alone and without the support of a unit, the sniper team is its own unit

they wouldnt have teh support of a unit; corret.

but they would support a unit, so on maps like bridge and mountian pass there could be actual sniper/spoter teams.

Isn't the sniper's fireteam leader also his spotter?

For the sake of the game, the DEV implemented "snipers" spots in the weapons. Only for variety sake they are incorporated in the "unit" But like CAdpat mentioned, in real combat/tactics, the sniper teams are only comprized of 2, and they are completely independent of other members. They are either independent, forward, or lateral to the recon team to provide support. But most of the time, they are assigned a target (primary objective..sometimes a secondary), and the snipers are responsible for their own entry/exit in and out of hostile territory. And, by all means, snipers are not there to attract attention to themselves. Only to complete, eliminate their designated targets.
