I am looking at building a new computer and was wanting to get some input from some fellow gamers. I want to know what processor should I go with and what speed.

I would go with the Intel Pentium 4 with Hyper-Threading. I recently overclocked it and it now runs at 3.24 GHZ.

I'm thinking about getting the 3.2 GHz. I'm stuck on a couple of mobos though.

DFI's LanParty http://sj.dfi.com.tw/Product/xx_product_spec_details_r_us.jsp?PRODUCT_ID=1134&CATEGORY_TYPE=null (I like the 4GB memory capability)

IWILL's P4SE Gold http://www.iwillusa.com/products/ProductDetail.asp?vID=174

Albatron's PX865PE PRO http://www.albatron.com.tw/english/it/mb/specification.asp?pro_id=52

And possibly a couple of others.

On the first one... Do you really need 4 GB of ram? I've got 1 and that's enough.

Unless you plan to run some very high load servers you won't ever need 4GB. 2GB is where I'd say full stop at the moment. I've got 1GB like SilentShadow, most of it is hardly in use, even when I'm running multiple servers, 3D applications and games at the same time.

I'm always running 1 server, and I have 2 others that are set to run when the computer is not in use, and I have multiple applications that access the internet 24/7. At the most, only about 256 mb of ram is ever used (when my servers are at their full load). You'll never need 4 gb of ram!

Don't worry about ram because you can always upgrade. I would get 1gig because even 512 is not necessary.

He was talking about the RAM capacity of the mobo. He favored one because it could take 4GB.

BTW, I don't think most Win32 OS'es even support more than 2-3GB.

Yeah, I know, 4GB is rather unpractical. I'm thinking about ditching the P4 and waiting till the P5 comes out. But, is there an OS that utilizes the P5's capabilities?
