Well, I wanted to sharpen up the ol 42 skills so I installed BF onto my computer. I wanted to try the complete vanilla so I didnt install any patches or anything else. I play the game and the computer ctd's. Same thing happens for Company of Heroes if that helps. Anyway, I tried the Easy Info and it tells me my cpu runs at - 1884 Mhz (yep thats a negative!). Under game requirements, It says I didnt pass the 500Mhz min requirement. I have a 2.5Ghz Machine. Anyway heres my specs: I'm thinking I should run memtest or something, I cant imagine the problem being with anything else. But any help is appreciated thanks:)
I also tried installing the patches. But even then it ctd's.// this sucks

What operating system are you using? sounds to be their might be a compatibility issue or that some hardware went broken.

t'Was in the DXdiagnostics file :naughty:
1. Have alook at the crash to desktop (CTD) links in my sig (could be a solution in there)
2. Run ati tray tools to have a look at temps of the graphics card (or mobo temps) 45-55C for the X850 GPU is normal and 40-50C for the 4000+ CPU is normal under load on stock cooling... higher then that could crash programs
3. Check for virusses and spyware (they can CTD games in some severe cases)
Hope it helps... :lookaround:
ok I dled the tray tools..My GPU under regular use is 48 C. My CPU is at 39 (its pretty hot in my room). Still I get these crashes. I dont understand why? Ill try a no cd patch or a HDD clone tonight. What usually happens is, Ill play single p[layer and it'll work for a few min. Then the graphics get all chopped up and I see unskinned tanks, smoke from rifles appearing in black rectangles and other nasty things. One other thing. I hear my HDD going crazy. Its a raptor 10, 000 rpm sata. It shouldnt but I hear it nonstop. Does this mean anything? Maybe bad ram? I hope to god its not my video card. :( :( :(
Sounds graphics card related if your graphics are going choppy. However i would start by re-installing everything. By that i mean your graphics driver and dx9c (?), then re-install bf42. Other than that it might by OS related, and you may need to re-install that aswell. But i would get some software first, and see if you can repair it. Try restore. Do all the virus scans and so on first. Re-install as last resort. If it isnt that, then its hardware related.
where can you find the temp of your graphics card with the ATI Tray Tools thing? I have it but don't know where to check the vid. card temp
thanks badseed. I just tried reinstaling all drivers going all the way back to 2004..I cleaned up my registry, virus scan spyware, malware etc..I haent tried a restore , I doubt it will work but I will try.Still problems..What boggles my mind is why Easy Info reports my cpu speed is negative 1884 Mhz!? Will this game and FH work with Vista? I have a copy of Vista lying around..I figure I might give vista a go if Im going to reformat. Im going to test this ram to see if its the problem. :(
Vista has issues, but it will run FH. Apparently you must restart the game between map loads and some other weird things. Theres a thread on running FH on Vista, it can be done. Its just not install and play, you must tell it to run in a special mode or something. Do all other programs have problems too, or just bf42??
I only have a few games which I play on a regular basis: Rome Total War - Works every time Silent Hunter III - Works fine Company of Heroes - Bought it, havent ever been able to get it to work..It ctd's during map load BF42 - ctd 2/2, This is quite unusual, I really havent the sligtest clue what could be the problem.
