Have you tried Memtest86 yet, it can happen that your memory has damaged chips (wear and tear, well ehm you know what I mean :D ).
Also your HDD's shouldn't be writing data all the time. Unless you defragmenting/copying or running virus scans or anything else hdd intensive like booting programs (FH)
I have the same hdd's and they are quiet, unless I tell them to do stuff :D
You could go for a complete reinstall OS and game as badseed said, I'd go for XP pro instead of Vista. Since, well just go read the Vista thread and see how "good" the support is for older games.
hope you get it sorted out...
Dont mean to bring a thread back from the dead...actually maybe I do.. It seems I have found my fix. It was the ram. After exhaustive troubleshooting, (memtests, video card driver reinstalls dating back to 2004, bios updates etc) I just want to say, I really sincerely absolutely groin grabingly hate computers. If anything, let this be testament to my undying obsession for FH. And to computers everywhere, I Love you :moon: But my hope in bringing this thread back to life is to offer the thought of a new stick of Ram to anyonelse who finds the strange and pecular problems I did. My friend laughed at me after I told him. May the farce be with you.
