the tilde key will not open the console in game to FTK.
bought a new dell xps 600 this summer, the tilde key works (```) and even in chat it works, but does not open the damn console in game.
i've checked my game settings, firewalls, the language settings, and even dell's help desk, but to no avail. my guess is it must be something stupid...
maybe tap the key in the upper left corner? Not esc, the one right below that one.
Technically we use the wrong word anyway. To open console you have to hit ` you get ~ by holding the shift key first. So when he types ` in here we know it works. But it is weird. Can that be mapped in the BF42 options menu? And if yes, change it. If not, re-install BF when you get those wonky issues.
seems like a re-install would be in order. like i said, the ` key works in chat, but won't open the console. is it possible to delete bf, then reinstall without having to mess with FH?
ok - i reinstalled BF and FH. the console will not open in either, although the tilde key works in chat. i bought a new computer this summer, dell xps 600. it has a mcafee security center, and a saitek keyboard. now, i'm thinking outloud here. the tilde key sends a command to the server to open the console, much like the "l" key and "k" keys for chatting, right? so i disabled the mcafee firewall (with no success in opening the console) then disabled both the mcafee firewall and windows firewall, still no success. though perhaps one of the ports was blocked. i'm out of ideas here, please help!

The tilde key has nothing to do with netcode/server side. It's locally excecuted to show the console, you can enter commands in this console to do stuff on the server side though. But the tilde key is run clientside
One thing which comes to mind and can be the cause your problem. You don't have a QWERTY keyboard (standart western keyboard layout) or a bad keyboard setup (in windows)...
------ For not having a true QWERTY keyboard you could look for a key with key which could be your access key to the console.
------ To see if you have the correct keyboard region setting go to:
Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Regional And Language Options
Once here go to the Language tab (should be showing by default) then press Details at Tekst services and input languages. This should bring up the keyboard layout. At keyboard there should be something like United States-International.
If this is not the case you should add this one and remove the one which is currently there (IMPORTANT! Remember it or write it's name down). Input language can be your own language (if it's not english), keyboard layout should be United States-International.
Now go and test stuff in a tekst editor (word? and perhaps FH) to see if you keyboard still works correctly. If not then do the same stuff as above but put back the keyboard layout you removed instead. (in this case your keyboard layout is at fault :( ) you could try other keys which have a weird symbol to see if that does anything, however this is a very rare occurrence. However Dell does seem to have some weird keyboard layout sometimes.
Now I'm going to lecture you :naughty: : Never take the easy route and buy a readymade "brand" pc!!! Sure some of the are good and it's simple to do, but the majority of them are bound to have problems with certain programs/games. I've heard it way to many times that people have problems. Instead, if you're going to buy a new pc sometime in the future. Go to a hardware store with expertise and tell them what you want to do with the pc. They will then give you proper advice, unlike a Dixons type store (which only sells "brand" pc's anyway)... Maybe take someone along who knows his way arround a computer as backup. Hardware store clerks tend to overwhelm people with information
I hope this helps. I can't think of any other posibility which could be causing the problem...
I didn't make it!
Wath i need to do for open console in Fate plz answer...
