I got a breath of fresh air the other day when I stumbled upon Forgotten Hope. I went to a friend’s work with laptop in hand ready to download the monstrous 1 Gb “full install”. Well $6.00 [to join a “high speed” download option], about 7 hours of waiting and three failed attempts to download the “full install” version [only 1 server available – Filefront Fastpass]. I decided to [return the next day] install the three separate versions of F.H plus the 6.7 patch. The next day and about 4 hours later, I finally got everything downloaded, rushed home and installed the entire BF series plus the MOD and patch. I start FH and all is good until the map starts to load (tried single, instant battle, multiplayer). Then, while loading, the progress bar stops about ¼ ways then the program crashes to my desktop. No error message, no “you’re an idiot” message … nothing. About 3 hours of attempting to get this monster to work … I read some of the forums and have taken some of the advice and completely uninstalled and deleted everything then reinstalled everything. In fact, I have done that four times and I am getting the same result. So, here is my question. Why don’t the 3 separate install packages work? Why wasn’t that little problem fixed with the 6.7 patch?! I suppose you are going to suggest that I attempt the 1.6 Gb again. Let me save you the trouble and suggest to you that you go jump in a lake. It is absurd and irresponsible to slap such a huge file on a server and 1) expect people to pay to download it because of its size and 2) assume most people have a connection that would allow such a download. How about if you guys fix the 3 separate F.H. files so they work correctly? Thanks for nothing, “Billiard_Nut”

I personally use the 3 part version of 0.65 + now the 0.67 patch. The full version contains the same three parts anyway, they are just in one zip/rar file. So that is not the cause of your problems, as far as I can see.

Nice to come here with one post and flame us. To be honest: How do you think are all the other ppl are able to play the mod when the main installer is corrupted? So - first of all a few hints (as you seem to be new with 1 post here): 1. Singleplayer itself does not work! You need to start a multiplayer coop match if you want to play against bots. 2. There are more servers available with 0.65 (just in case...) 3. While installing 0.65 do NOTHING else in the meantime. And try to turn of AV Guard as it might corrupt installation (no there is no virus inside - just the scanner checking and installing at the same time takes a lot cpu load and might cause problems). 4. Installing BF 1942, BF1942 1.61, FH 1 of 3 0.65, FH 2 of 3 0.65, FH 3 of 3 0.65 and finally FH 0.67 might be the trick. In case check if 0.65 is running probably before installing 0.67. 5. No one forced you to pay for your download. There are servers offering it free (warumdarum.de p.e.). And if you get corrupt downloads because of your connection that might have background noise there are some hosters offering the download by cd that will be sent to you. Try that in worst case. I hope that will help.

I acknowledge the fact that nobody “made” me do anything. In fact that wasn’t the message I was trying to convey. Just the thought that I spent hours downloading files that do nothing more then take up space on CDs and my hard drive completely frosts me.

I acknowledge and applaud the hard work that the developers have spent on this game and others like it. The sole reason why I like BF1942 is because: 1) I could play a game that was semi-unpredictable (where enemy is, what they going to do, etc) and 2) the game had all kinds of vehicles, weapons and other items at my disposal. I assumed (1st mistake) that Forgotten Hope would simply be an addition to the original BF series.

Now I learn that Forgotten Hope is nothing more then a very elaborate on-line game. Is Battlefield 2 going to be all online or is it going to have single player ability? How about all the mods for Battlefield 2 – are they going to be for online play only? Simply put - if Battlefield 2 is going to be all online I wont buy it or any game like it.

The reason is: I am cursed with dial-up in a high speed world. None of the high speed choices are available where I live. Granted there is satellite internet but spending $500 for equipment and over $60 a month just to play a game, are definite grounds for divorce. Not only is my dial-up availability a problem but what about the folks that cant afford or don’t chose to have high speed internet. But they are like me and love games like BF1942?

I understand technology; in fact I work with it everyday. But I strongly feel that basing a game solely for online playing (Americas Army included) is purposefully leaving patrons from enjoying a game and contributing to your paychecks. Yes, we that suffer from the technology lag are becoming extinct but we still have a place in the gaming world.

From my tin can and string connection,

Look at Half-Life 2 - only with Internet Connection. For some reason the world goes to multiplayer online gaming as real enemies are more interesting than bots I guess. BF2 will be as BF42 I guess. You can fight the bots though - but you can do in FH by selecting Coop on multiplayer (as I said in my first post). Give it a try. Maybe you like it. You can play all alone at home then, no reason to pay on Dial-Up and we are happy if you enjoy the free game experience we created over the years as modification for BF1942. Cheers
