Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows any sites where I could get information on how to manage and configure BF1942's dedicated server.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D
-By configuring, i mean the "ready screen" where some servers have messages, warnings, etc. Also, remote console, where can I get that at?
I really like the Black Bag Server Manager, but it requires a game disc to be in the drive when hosting. The default BF program does not, and it seems that it shouldn't, otherwise I'd need two copies of the game. Am I missing something?
there is a stand-alone server install for dedicated....if you are hosting you wouldn't really need a server manager
I have the 1.31 stand alone for Battlefield. When my friends and I play, I'm experimenting with using my laptop as the dedicated server and joining the game with my desktop. This way I can run the full load of bots and run all computer settings at max with no problems.
The original BF server manager doesn't require a disc, but the BBO server manager (which is much better) does. I've posted about it their forum, too. Maybe it's something they'll fix in the next version.
I found the problem. Instead of putting the BBO managers into the server directory, I had them in the main 1942 directory. Changing this solved the CD problems, but brings up another question. Now Desert Combat and DCRTR don't show up in the games to choose from. I assume it's because all of the mods are installed in the main 1942 directory instead of the server's directory. Do I need it installed in both?
BTW, this may sound stupid, but I have to ask anyway. ;) Do I need 1942 installed to run a dedicated server, or just the 1.31 server download? I ask because, I can't play on the machine I'm using as a dedicated server anyway because it doesn't have a good enough video card. If I do need both the game and he server, will I need to put mods in the 1942 directory and the server directory, or can I just put them in the server directory since I won't be playing?
put any mods/maps you want to use on your laptop server install, the BBO server utility will find them. I have a test server that I use that has alot of cutom maps and mods and I have yet to have a problem. Make sure you are installing them withthe correct path.
would be the base directory with the server manager in it
then you would have:
C:\BFserver\Admin Tool C:\BFserver\MultiplayerServers C:\BFserver\Mods <---- which would have your mods\maps subdirectories
Hope this helps you
I've uninstalled the game (on the server/my laptop) and reinstalled all the mods and maps to the "server" directory.
I'm in good shape now!
