for the first time im having issues with fh. first time i have tried it on my new rig and im baffled.

installed bf1942, then 1.6 patch, then 1.61 patch then fh files 1, 2, and 3, in order. changed gfx settings to max out all settings and modded my controls. but every time i i get into a map and start playing, the screen hangs, gfx freeze, the sound loops and repeats and I either have to wait until I get a ctd, or manually reset my pc.

my specs are

athlon64 3500xp 2gb ram radeon X800XL 256 msi K8 platinum mobo with onboard sounblaster live 24bit chip

all mr drivers are the latest release, and ive tried a fresh intall of bf1942 again to see if i had issues with the first install. ive closed all apps, messenger progs, and anti virus software - still no luck.

can anyone offer any advice - im desperate to play fh but my damn pc wont let me!

It more looks like hardware problem. Maybe your mobo is not fast enough for graphics card. I had such issue wich caused my games hang and repeat the sound. Or maybe it's just faulty hardware that can be replaced on warrancy rules? Check out what happens in other games, especially new ones.

new games run great. CoD2, HL2, F.E.A.R., Quake 4, BF2 (shudders), even brothers in arms, all run great.

i read somewhere something about sound acceleration having to be turned on/off???? anyone know for sure whats this about?

Well I only heared that it's causeing problems and it's hard to detect what was it supposed to realy do. So turn it off if it's not yet. YOu'll find it on the second page of Sound Settings in Options Menu. It's the Hardware Acceleration on/off option.

is it usually on by default? ive not messed with the sounds settings yet, but it HAS bothered me that whenever I DO get a crash, its always the sound that seems to "cause" it?

ive found over the years that when a game crashes, and a sound loops like that. 8 outa 10 times its a sound card issue. either you dont have the right driver loaded, or you have settings on that your sound card doesnt support. i would play with all the games sound settings, and if that fails try updating your sound cards drivers.

ok - things i have tried since gettin home ;

disble hardware accel change 32 channels to 24 update sound card drivers disable sound card in device manager turn off aa and aaf on my gfx card disable sound completely in bf42 options install latest gfx card drivers install latest mobo drivers tried starteing bf42 using a brand new windows login (in case i had apps running in background on my login)

needless to say, NOTHING has worked - ive only actually made it into the game once as ive had crashes, with looping sound on the browser screen.

the only things i have left to try are starting the game from ase instead of in game browser, playing vanilla (to see if fh is the problem), playing offline (see if online play is the cause)

other than that im totally stuck - anyone else shed any light on it?

maybe you got a bad download, try re-downloading and re-install. that is all i can suggest

ok - i think ive found the problem. and its graphics

during a graphics driver update i encountered an installation error, but the drivers continued to install. but after looking on several forums, a number of people have been having teh same problem, AND suffering crashes and BSOD. but ive tried teh fixes suggested with no problem.

if anybody here can help it would be appreciated. Im suffering with a "zero service display" error when installing. ive tried rebooting to safe mode, uninstalling display drivers, using a driver cleaner, then reinstalling catalyst but with no luck.
