Thanks anyway. It is obviously related to the custom shaders, as this never occured with 2.0, since 2.1 he is no more able to play. Strange however that another friend has no problems with the download version of BF2. What about giving my friend my DVD, letting him install it - as he of course owns a distinct cd-key - and letting him play that with a fixed image? Or would that be illegal, although he rightfully owns it?

Tried to temporarily install my DVD version on his pc with his key to see if that fixes it. But his key obviously does only work with the download version, so that's no fix. This sucks, put kindly, as he bought it solely for FH2. Ideas anybody?

I know I am talking to myself, but my hope hasn't collapsed yet.

Sorry Boller, but EA's downloader is just trash. I hope he can get a workaround with EA by asking for the DVD Version, but afaik there is no solution to this.

Hm yeah. There obviously isn't. But seriously, there must at least be a way to find out what exactly the problem is?

He could always play without problems - until the 2.1 patch. So our guess was - it will probably be the shaders, as he always got that error message at startup, which is described in the stickies.

BUT - he can start a game in single player. And there, the shaders do work. Perfectly. No problems at all. Why? I don't get it. He can open up a LAN server, too. And with his downloader version, he can play on his gf's computer too.

Can't one get an error log or something somehow?

I know you could do this with the BF2_r.exe in the original game. But I have no idea how to use that in conjuction with FH2.exe.

Is their maybe anyone of the dev team who is dedicated to debugging the mod? Maybe I can find a solution in dialogue with him, as I think solving this problem would not solely my buddy, but would contribute to the mod community as a whole.

Thanks in advance

Is this with every server he tries to log on to ? Try one with punkbuster disbaled, just to rule that out. Can he play vanilla BF2 on a server?

It probably isn't related to shaders if he can play single player and on his own lan.

Does he have a .dmp file in his /my documents/Battlefield 2 folder.

We tried logging on a non-punkbuster server, it didn't work as well, so we ruled pb out. I will check out tomorrow whether he has a dmp-file in his md/bf2/ folder. However, the last time we checked, it seemed something is missing there. He had no /mods-folder. I dunno whether this is a download-version thing or something else.

Hmmm you can let BF2 run in windowed mode for FH2 as well and there you will see an error message should one appear.

Damn EA and it's online BS----

Like yesterday, I was about to buy NFS:Underground to keep me occupied, as I have no Internet at home at the moment, but nooooohooo... those damn idiots have to make a singleplayer game that needs an online registration/verification to be able to play it OFFLINE!

*mumbelsindisgust*

Ah well, now I will have to ask a friend to get me a 'backup' that needs no internet to play.
