Hello all!! I'm about to buy between a used 9800 pro and a X1600 pro agp 256 Mb new ( dont have too much to expend) Reading on internet, people say that both cards are quite similar in perfomance, but with the X1600, graphics look much better and have new technology. I don't know which graphic card would be the best for BF2 and of course for FH2!, ( also for FH, my actual graphic card run it bad in some maps). I just plan to play FH2 when it comes, and perhaps another new game, but Im focus on playing FH and FH2 with good performance. My specs: MSi VIA PT880 Neo Intel P4 2.80 Ghz Ati Radeon 9200SE 128Mb (strong my card but not enough :( ) 768 RAM HEC WINPOWER 480 Watts (real) Help me to choose the best card! thanks.

9800 pro is faster but a x1600pro has more features as its newer. Personally I'd get the 9800 pro as the x1600 pro has newer features but lacks the power to use them properly. Could you not stretch to a 6600gt?

thanks for the answer. 6600gt mmm , I'll think about it. does this card gives much better perfomance than the other ones I wrote?. If perfomance is way better, I'll choose it. The point is that Im more familiar with ATI, catalyst and everything so my options where the 2 cards mentioned. If i have to change to Nvidia to play FH and FH2 good, I will.

The 6600gt is slightly faster than the 9800 pro and have Shader Model 3 which is starting to become important. I prefer ATI myself but I don't think AGP wise there is anything that can rival the 6600gt for its price.

What's the difference between the 6600 series and the 6800 series? I'm in the same boat, and would like to buy a new card, but don't want to spend a WHOLE lot. Also, I've seen a 6600GT at two different places with about a 100USD difference in price. Is there a big difference between manufacturers?

Hi,

The 6800 are faster thats about it, both the 6600 and 6800 series cards have the same tech. In terms of manufacturers they are all pretty much the same and I always go for the cheapest.

So I should be okay just going for the 6600GT then, huh? I'll have to buy a new box (for PCIe) after another two years or so, but since the only game I forsee myself playing is FH2 anyway, I may as well save myself some cash. Thank you for your help.

edit: in order to give profuse thanks.

Yeah the 6600gt should run BF2 nicely at medium settings as long as the rest of your PC is good.

Damn, a 6600 won't get me to high?

I've got 2Gigs of 3200, a P4 3Gig, and an (old) Audigy. Hard drives are pieces of crap, one is a 6 year old 20 Gig Maxtor, but everything else is okay.

Just adding the Audigy a few days ago, and the P4 a few weeks ago, made it a lot better. I can run on high in FH, with no lag even in single player.

Maybe I'll spring the little bit extra for the 6800GS and try and run things on high in FH/BF2. I'd love to be able to run on high for once. (I've only got a 5700 now.)

Yeah a 6800GS should do it as the rest of your system is fine.
