I just upgraded to 1 gig of PC3200 ram and FH runs absolutely fabulous. Now here's my question: I have an Athlon XP at 2200 MHz and I'm running in dual channel memory w/ 2x512's. However, I still have my old 256MB that I can add to my 3rd slot for a total of 1.256 GB total memory. The catch is, I'll lose my dual channel mode. Is the extra memory worth the loss of the dual channel mode? I haven't noticed much of a difference but when I run 3DMark03, I actually lose about 80 points w/ the extra memory and loss of dual channel. Any opinions? Should I just put my 2 old 256MB's on ebay and try to make some money?
sell them :smokin: because performance wise its slowing down ur computer btw how many slots are in your comp? im thinking 3
U don't think the 25% increase in memory is beneficial? Not just in gaming but overall? Is it worth the sacrifice?
i'd keep the dual channel..........and don't forget to change your page file size on memory upgrades (saves you a few meg's in storage)
Yup, I don´t think 1.280 MB-RAM are faster than 2x512 MB-RAM. Also, it depends on which clockspeed the RAM is.
I wouldn´t use it in my system and instead do something else with it...
Read your mb manual. you can have dual speed with three sticks.
But they have to be identical.... including size. I have two 512's and then i'll have one old 256.
BTW, what's the rule of thumb for the paging size? Isn't it x times the amount of physical memory you have?
Thanks for all the input guys. Off to ebay I go w/ these old chips! Hopefully I can at least get $30 for them.
? I had two 256mb sticks in dual and one additional 512.
