I've been unable to play FH2.1 much as I tend to get these problems regularly:

1. I start to get massive lag, killing my fps completely and when for example quitting or switching back to desktop I get an error telling that my nv4_disp.dll has stopped working and it ask to restart whole comp.

2. Everything is normal but then suddenly it just ctd and I get nv4_disp.dll error saying same as above and prompting to restart.

In both cases it completely kills my desktop and defaults to 4bit colors (very ugly looking like from 80's old computers or something :p) and 640x480 resolution. Its impossible to switch them back to normal as nv4_disp.dll has been shutdown.

So the question is is FH2 causing this because every other game works perfectly normal. No other game give this same problem killing my nv4_disp.dll in the process. I personally think it has something to do with 2.1 release as before it I only had normal ctd's and nothing like this.

Ohh and these are my comp's specs: Athlon 64 3800+ Geforce 7900 GTO 2 gigs 800mhz Windows XP SP2 Newest DirectX 9 drivers and 163.75 Nvidia NForce drivers.

EDIT: Just to give examples of games that I play rather regularly and which run perfectly normal: Neverwinter Nights 2, Mass Effect (rather new game and demanding one on graphics department), Medieval 2 Total War (+ various mods like Broken Crescent etc.), Heroes of M&M 5 and of course FH1.

Hmm I cannot edit my first post anymore so sorry for double post.

I just want to know if this is really just FH2 related problem because at first I thought my GPU is dying on me but it doesn't seem so because most my games just work as they always done. Expection are those which are running on Unreal 3 like Bioshock (Mass Effect works but it gets hickups on FPS on regular basis).

I was getting the exact same problems as well.My solution was to swap out my radeon HD3560 512mb and put back my old Nvidia 7800gt and the crash to desktop problem was solved.I still get the occasional crash but i suspect that's due to the individual server i may be playing on.Just couldn't find an ATI driver that was stable enough for FH2.Although i haven't tried the new ATI drivers released today.

What I now use are from last years November. I used newer one for a while but it seemed just to make the problem occur more often so I switched back to old drivers. Those were the ones I used when FH2 was released in december and when 2.1 came to town.

I DLed newest drivers yesterday but haven't tried them yet.

I believe that the forelast driver for Ati works the best. But if you do try the new one, then please tell us how it went, I am looking at buying a HD3870 and I know the new ATI line has some issues with BF2. :)

Definitely driver related, the nv4_disp.dll belongs to the Nvidia graphic card driver. I'll suggest to try the latest one, which is 175.19 iirc.

As I said I DLed newest drivers and installed them yesterday. I've been playing alot FH2 today and there has been no nv4_disp.dll errors!

And if this wouldn't be enough FH2 seems to work better than before. There is almost none stuttering I was suffering regularly while playing before these new drivers.

Ohh goody goody I can finally get back to play FH2!! :nodding:

Thanks for help everyone and lets hope this problem is solved for good. :D
