Im not going to upgrade my CPU anytime soon, not for at least 2 years. (Dont worry though, the next time I upgrade Ill build the PC myself) I play games that have alot of stuff flying and driving around, such as Forgotten Hope, BFV, and UT2k4 Onslaught mode. Anyway I was thinking about getting a RAM upgrade. I think Id probably have to upgrade sooner or later for these crazy ass games that are coming out.

I have a Dell P4 2.60 with HT, 512RAM, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. So I was wondering what I should do. Here are some ideas:

1. Buy 256 RAM, which would give me 768 RAM. I know it wouldnt make a major difference, but I think you can get these for around $20 if Im correct.

2. Buy 512 RAM, which would give me 1G RAM. Some say theres a very noticeable difference with this upgrade, while others say its not even worth it. Would be resonably cheap I reckon, like about $50 right?

3. Buy 1G RAM, which would give me 1.5G RAM. I dunno how much of a difference this would make. This would also be a costly upgrade, about $100 if Im correct, but could give me the extra energy my cpu needs to last me 2+ more years of gaming with the crazy stuff thats coming out soon.

So what do you think I should do? Any of these? None of these? what? Also what type and brand of RAM should I get? Theres a huge list of RAM at pricewatch.com and I dunno what I should get for my system.

Its either PC2700 or PC2100 for your computor (the higher number, the "better" memory, but the motherboard in your computor cant utilize higher, ofcourse you could buy PC4400 since it will then run in 2700 or 2100 or whatever your MB is.)

As odessa said, you probably have 2*256 and then you have only 2 slots free and now you have to decide, if you get 2*512mb you can be generally "safe" in one year but maybe need to upgrade againin two years... ;) or you can get 2*1024 and be safe until your graphicscard cant handle the load.

I have PC 3200 DDR RAM. I checked. So what Im going to go ahead and do is get 256 MB Samsung stick I found. 768 RAM should be enough for me.

Your motherboard can utilize either one, two or four memorysticks, not three! So if you have 2*256 you cant put in a third 256 (you have to get a fourth 256)! If you have a single 512 you MUST get another 512 since in dualmode you must have similar memorysticks.

I hope you read this before buying that 256 since... its quite useless for your comp.

Leave the RAM alone. 1GB will help you load levels and games quicker, but you won't see much difference in gameplay. Save your money for the next generation of videocard X800? etc. If you do a lot of picture editing/video then more RAM is better.

Oh yes, you do notice some "lag" sometimes? Its mostly due the swapfile (virtual memory) isnt as fast as the 512 mb real memory you have. More memory is a MUST when playing FH (and a good graphiccard ofcourse)
