(maybe this could eventually be a sticky =p) anyways...1. is there any editor tricks to reduce lag and get higher FPS? i got only xfire running in the backround and i still get lag (comp. can run BF2 medium settings with minimul lag) 2. does the marine assault ship have a flag and spawn points built in, and if so how do i tie objectspawners to it?
If you can run bf2 ok then there shouldnt be any annoyingly bad lag, what is your system specs? Try changing Tools-Options-EditorEnginesettings and lower the viewdistance. In terraineditor-texturing you can go to the general tab and lower LodSwitchDistance.
You can also witch to grid mode in the render menu and turn of toogle of all renders and if you still get lag there is probably something fishy going on.
Im curious to here if there where any diffrence.
meh it didn't work like i wanted it too. i got less lag, but more lag spikes. i dont think its my map cause i dont have that many statics yet, but then again i was working on the carrier. my guess is its my comp. i'll have to wait till i get my new one in a few months. quad core processor ftw :D
Thats sounds nice :-) remember that RAM is very important for the editor, todays graphics cards should be fine as long as its not the cheapest ones. BF2 is also built with Nvidia based techniques in mind so get a Nvidia graphics card instead of a ATI if possible.
Help with lag spikes i have nividia 7300/dual core/1gb of ram Rogers high speed internet and im in a network but my connection to rouder is execellent and speed is 54mb i dunno what the problem is but every 1 or 2 minutes i get warning connection problems is getting annoying as hell this also happends with all my games
Do you use wireless connection to the router? This can cause many problems, it could also be the router itself or the router settings, try to use a cable instead and if possible skip the router all togheter and connect directly to the modem/lan connection and see if you get better results.
is there a way to turn off animations like the flags and ambiet effects in the editor?
If you have 1Gb RAM the editor will never run too smooth, and it's directly proportional to the size of map and stuff placed.
There is some systems to run smoother: the vehicles must be in a diferent layer (each map version needs its layer, so default one for statics, and then layers for 64, 32 and 16 players versions), you can toggle off the vehicles layers when you want. And use the grid mode view, detail texture mode just when you want to paint terrain

You can turn off fire/smoke and such with "Toggle draw particles" in the render menu.
That setup should run the editor fine if the guys who assemble it knows what they are doing.
