How do I put effects into the fh.lst file?

I have found some rather interesting ones:

He111Bombrun B17Bombrun [etc] BuildingFireBig

you can't put those effects into a map.. well you can, but they dont show-up. i believe they are effects that relate to ingame explosions and bomb effects or something, so they happen then disappear. thats just a guess? the only fire effect ive seen placed on a map, is the campfire inside a tank or in rubble trick. and then maybe a smoke effect aswell. (buildingsmokeidledark) this can be placed in your map. however to get it to work in the editor because its an effect and has no physical component,...use this line Buildingsmokeidledark=StandardMesh(Ammobox_m1) in the editor it will show up as an ammobox, but ingame it will be the smoke-effect. the part i set bold, this just tells the editor a type of object to display in the editor, so you can move it around and place it. it could really be anything, but an ammobox works fine for me.

it has no actual relation to the object that your placing in the map file. you are placing "Buildingsmokeidledark" in the static.con and this is the object that makes smoke, and will show-up ingame. and theres some sandstorm effects in some of the desert maps, you will have to look those up.

Oh.

So is it possible to have a plane fly around the map on its own? If it is possible, can it drop bombs at random moments?

Also - Instead of using the 'beachbombardment', can I just spaw the arty shells up high in the air, so that they fall down and explode?

yes, you can have a plane fly in a circle set to any diameter, height, adjusting its speed etc. as desired. im not sure about the bomb dropping, one would need either a timer system to drop them every so often, or use a trigger system to get bombs to drop at designated points. i have not seen scripted bomb dropping in any other map, so i dont know if its possible or not. it would be interesting to find out though :D ive not seen the 'beachbombardment' effect before. im not sure how you would get arty shells to just spawn in the air? i suppose if you can get arty shells to spawn in the air, i dont see why they wouldnt fall and explode. i used a similar system for random arty, when scripting my own "Operation-Flashpoint" missions. however im not sure how much scripting the BF-engines will except. i really havent looked into that side of things with this game yet. i dont know whether or not the game will except conditions, if i could get a list of all the command functions, i might be able to tell you more. you can set triggers that set off sound files maybe that could be used?

As far as I know there are no commands for setting conditions. I also scripted a bit in ofp and it's nothing like this from my experience with Bf42. There's already an oma_arty object in Omaha Charlie sector-1944 files, I think that it works but I didn't ever managed to get it working on my map. And I doubt that it would be able to spawn the arty over the water. Projectiles are separate coded but haven't got an object realy that can be spawned, they are just used in codes of weapons.

I think there's an FH fan map that uses this arty effect to create a really nice map. It's called Juno Beach, I'm not sure where you can get it from though (Bf1942Files maybe?).

when the mappack comes out (really soon) the "A_Day_of_Zitadelle" map has the rotating planes, just extract and take a look, this is the best method for you to learn about them anyway, as you can see exactly how it was used in the map.
