Keep on mind that I had no problems with BC 2.1 or ED42 til just in teh last week. I have been working on this and made amps using both progrtams with no problems.

I started a new map in BC 2.1, It did not have the heightmap, fog and water showed but the terrain didnt show. I saved the map and closed and reopened BC and the terrain was there. I made the changes I wanted and then opened the surface map assignments and made all teh surface maps textures I wanted and went to assign them and I got an error "ERROR: No surface assignments made. Please open the surface map assignments and assign surface materials" or something to that effect.

Thinking BC was just being BC I extracted the map to ED42 and opened it in ED42 and I cant assign any textures. I cant paint and ED42 textures on the map. I cant assign height or slope or textures.

Experimenting I have tried to start 3 more maps with the same problems. I have uninstalled and reinstalled BC and uninstalled ed42, deleted and reinstaslled all the rfa's for ed42 and still the same problems

What the heck is going on here?

ok those assignments are sound assignments not actually textures, altho it paints a basic corresponding texture.(so you know what sounds, you laid down for a square. and where it is, for later ref.) you can paint whatever you want over this, afterwards... but mud will sound like mud, when walked on. and gravel, like gravel. etc. etc. but you say, you started 3 new maps, and they all have the same issue hmmm.. make a copy of an existing "good map" and see if you can edit the copy, with either editor. if not, all i can suggest is maybe your bf1942 install is kaput! somehow :clueless: dunno? p.s. both editors use bf1942 prosesses for certain functions, if somethings been corrupted...could be the reason.

Good maps work fine and any preexisting maps I try work fine. I have also discovered it seems to be related to maps I create in Battlecraft and export to ED42. I can start a map from scratch in ED42 and it works fine. So now I have to find out why I cant make maps in BC 2.1

do a file by file comparison of a good map vs a bad one. and find the difference. i know, crappy... but its the only way to find out what it is. b.t.w. bc is notorious for overwriting your .con files with bad lines so check the .init.con

Anlushac, open up BC, go to tools and select "generate material map" (F10). it will ask you how you want your materials laid out, you can decide whatever one, because both ways suck equally. once this is finished, hit 'ctrl-A'. this should open up the "surface map assignments" menu. then you should hit the button that says "default" on the right side of the menu. the blue boxes on the grid then will turn green. once you are happy with that, hit 'OK' and the menu will close. now go to "tools"- and select "generate surface maps". then a box pops up that says, "surface map generator bf1942" or something. ok. now hit ok, and bc will start making and coloring the texture files for your map one by one. this takes a while, so grab a smoke or get the newspaper and take a crap for a bit. once this process is done, you have a map with nightmarish textures, but then you can save the map, unpack it and get to work on it in ed42, so its all good. ***and by the way, I suggest that you never open your map in BC having once worked on it in ed42. There are too many headaches that arise from doing this.
