Does anyone know how to correctly important a BF2 .raw file into either L3DT or Terragan so that I can do a final texture on it? Terragan only has an option to import 8-bit .raw files and I think BF2 heightmaps are 16-bits and it always ends up looking weird.

For L3DT very simple, open the bf2 heightmap in photohsop 16-bit raw, channels 1, IBM PC byteorder. Then you save it as a tiff and import in l3dt.

For terragen converting with geocontrol is the easiest but costs money, World machine can export .ter for free but is limited to 513x513 size unless you pay.

Easier

change the raw format in photoshop to 8 bits, terragen can import it and paint the color textures

I tried that Lobo. When opening the .raw file in PS I made used the settings: Width/Height: 513 Channels Count: 1 Depth: 8-bits Header Size: 0 And that didn't work. The heightmap looked way different than 16-bits. Is there something else I am missing?

No, you open it as usual, with 16 bits, now you will see two channels, one bizarre looking like fractals or a bad acid trip and other a nice heightmap, select this last channel and convert to 8 bits
