Im still playing with this and playing with the terrain colors and trxtures.

The sand is supposed to be desert pink but came out a wee bit lighter.

The Polish armored cars are stand ins for Marmon Harrington Armored car which they resemble.

I have clsoe to 1,000 shrubs and about 80 rock clusters that i have rotated and turned so they dont all look alike and it still looks sparse.

I am still playing with a copy of this map in ED42 but still get a "missing files needed to load" error.

Looks good....I don't know if it is just me, but the texture looks so different from all the BF desert maps...I havn't been in the desert, and knowing EA I think its wrong anyway...

The AT gun; put it up a little higher so the guy manning it will not be uber and not kill-able. And use something else to mark the airstrip, the sand is not doing well to mark it.

The details look good but the texture(s) are horrible. That yellowis pink is ugly and dosn´t make the map very appealing. Its also lacking landscape detail.

Sorry to say, but I´m not impressed.....yet.

I don't really know what a desert is supposed to look like, but maybe you should try to use slightly different versions of this texture on different elevations. I guess using different textures is especially important in the settlement.

I like how the at-guns are dug in and the large open spaces this map seems to have. The arrangement of shrubs on pic15 looks quite good too, much like some WWII games I played :)

The color is based off of a photo taken at Bir Hacheim which is 20 miles to the west. The colors came out too light in game so I have to play with it more.

This is the photo I based the colors off of. Notice the pinkish almost coral color. Thi si what is known as desert pink. The clor varies from a tanish grey to a desert pink, howcever like I said it was not supposed to be strawberry pink.

These are pics of Sidi Rezegh area. Ed Duda is about 3-4 mlies across the valley from the Mosque.

Hmm the sand doesn't look so good, maybe try an other detail.dds? It looks a bit like a gigant parkinglot (pavement) now with a sand color on it. Maybe ajust the color of the sand itself a bit though, it doesn't look real enough although it roughly resembes the picture you show above. Somehow the sand misses something but i cant put my finger on it. Try the detail.dds first.

my suggestion would be to add more detail to your heightmap. Absolutely flat heightmaps such as yours look unnatural and lifeless. On any section of flat terrain, you should have a feature, such as a runway, road or building. The rest should have a slight slope or some other height adjustment going on.

then, once you have some height changes throughout your map, use ed42 to redo your textures, using a height modifier to make the high sections slightly lighter/darker than the others. This will give your heightmap real depth and it really adds a realistic look :)
