Well I am having a rough time to get editor 42 to work according to my intentions. It does not appear to mix colors very well when I paint over a pre-existing pattern. Look at the picture below, where I have painted the brownish road texture color on the grey/white snowy stuff that was tere from before. I get all kinds off green/purple colors just like petrol film on a water surface :( .
And YES before KingRudolf starts kicking my butt about the details.dds again it has been changed a long time ago, I just got a random init.con reset  for the umpteenth time but I just change it back no problem.
Back to the problem of the petrol color dots. I am probably not the first one to get these, does anybody know where I can read about how to get rid of them? Start using battlecraft again, maybe?
for some reason ive got black terrain on maps i start, like a snow map, its all black terrain. whats up with this?
^ i guess you might want to try diff. textures and see what comes out.
I had those when I mapped, which I havn't in months. I know Donitz had them because I remeber him telling me about a long time ago. I don't think there is a way to get rid of them 100% and i'm pretty sure CoinCoin, the maker of ED42, knows about them but, if I remember, he said he didn't know how to fix them or was fixing them. It has been awhile so I don't know exactly what he said. Maybe if he comes out with a new ED42 it might be fixed, but I wouldn't bet on it.
You might want to get new textures, it might help a little. I see yours are lighter and reseamble BC's. Darker textures might help cover it up more and make it less noticeable but i'm not quite sure.
try changing the detail.dds in ur map/textures
It is not related to details.dds - the petrol color spots stays there no matter which details.dds I use.
edit your textures in photoshop once your preliminairy texturing is done. these spots will be gone after you go through... the Process.
but i don't have photoshop, i am lazy and i think two applications (battlecraft + ed42) should be enough.....
well, maybe its the opacity... sometimes its the opacity
Yes, I suspect opacity. The version I gave you a screenshot from , I had used opacity (or rather: transparency) quite much - the screenshot does not show the worst area. I retextured some of the worst areas, this time using a completely opaque (non-transparent) brush, same library. It does look better indeed, but along the edges of gravel road -> snow covered areas I still get these hippy petrol colors :(
I only got this problem in BC, even though the textures are done in ED42 or Photoshop. I suspect you saved your level a few times in BC after texturing. Every time you save, BC compresses the textures, creating those ugly spots. The solution is simple: back up your textures from ED42 (Tx files), you'll have to live with the petrol spots until you're completely done with everything you need to do in BC. Then, extract the map, put in the fresh textures you made in ED42, and pack it up again. Should work like a charm.
