Any tips on making roads, I seem to fail with textures. I can't get the width right at all. :-(

Thanks!

lol?... no thats not possible.... textures are handpainted by mappers... I paint my roads by hand in editor42, it takes time, but thats what level design is all about, put in the time required to do it professionally... A medium sized map (512kb) takes around 8 hours to paint roads to, if you want them to look good... I paint in three layers, using 3 customized textures I make from plain colors or sampled colors from dirt or gravel materials..

Yeah and it looks likes its a decal, i hate bf2's roads. They removed alot of the actual artistic aspect from the process. Now all you do is apply textures....or decals could be another term. Its reduced my desire for mapping tbh Part of the reason i never used ed42 much for textures, is because it too did alot of texturing by process. Wheres the art in that? A good road made in BC or ed42 requires layers, working from the bottom up. Do the base texture, dirt, gravel, concrete, whatever... then do the details, like the edges on either side, also the shoulder off the road. Then do wear mark or tracks. You can go on and on, just look at all the different aspects of any road and just layer them in. Roads are very time consuming, i spent a week doing all the roads on Saipan-1944 by hand in BattleCraft. They arent perfect but atleast they arent a decal..

What prevents painting the roads by hand in BF2Editor? Nothing as far as I know... :)

Exactly, besides you can cuztomise the textures used for road objects. With such feature available, it only makes thsoe who prefer to polish the artistic side of the map stand out more.;)

This is a part of Strike at karkands colormap, some of the outskirts roads are "stamps" but most seem to be handpainted in either bf2editor or some image editor like photoshop ;)
