I`ve noticed that all my maps have a really weird terrain deformation effect when you view it from a certain distance. What I mean is that if you start in freecam high above the terrain, and move in on the ground, the terrain will start to sort of change shape as you come nearer. Eventually, the terrain will reach its final shape, the way it is supposed to be, when you are close enough. This doesnt really show too much when youre just walking around on the ground, but when you are in a plane, or in freecam, it looks really horrible. I put together a small video to show what I mean: http://home.no/whataburger/BF-Bug.rar Does this look\sound familiar to anyone? If so, how do I fix this, because I have not seen this in any other level, and it looks really ugly.

i'll check the vid in a few seconds, but it sounds as if it's the way the game reduces the poly-count of the terrain and is common in (any?) game. it's also very visible in the FS-series. i don't believe there's much to do about it, except hoping (and expecting) that BF2 will render higher detailed terrain at distance

edit: now i've seen it. it's the way the game reduces detail to avoid 1fps-......

Go into the init/terrain.con and mess with the terrain LOD (ie make it higher).

Thanks for the help guys. Increasing the LOD distance did the trick alright, but how much will this effects the maps fps? I did not notice anything ingame, but perhaps with lots of other things going on, there will be an fps drop?

The FPS will decrease since its keeping land farther out have more complex than just having it simple, I don't know how much though. This is a feature in BF so maps don't lag, not a bug.
