well tbh this dirt crossing the road is awesome. if you have tracked vehicles driving thru the mud they will FOR SURE make the road dirty! imo this is exactly how it should look like. i understand want you mean Donuts but this not only a dirt road its Dirt!

I get your point but even with a very dirty muddy road it probably wouldn't look like that. The dirt seems rather thick and heavy as if it's surrounded / ontop of an earth surface. WHile crossing pavement the dirt would fade out a bit (become scattered, some vehicles adding dirt to the road, others compressing it, yet others scraping it or pushing it away. The crossing is to line/stripe shaped (straight) So IMO it should either be faded out a bit in the centre of the road OR there should be extremely heavy dirt spreading a wider area showing that lots of traffic have been through the muddy roads very recently.

Google fails me though, I have some excellent mental pictures... :( Some heavy traffic farm road exits is what I'm emaging, such road crossing can be pretty damn dirty but they also show a pattern different then two paralel dirt tire tracks.

*googles some more*

Don't forget that it's just a suggestion. I'm saying it looks a bit off, not horribly wrong or anything. =p

Donutz, thanks your feedback. I was undecided about allowing the roads to overlap because of the unnatural look, but Toddel's explanation of the "dirt" road effect was my goal. In the next version I plan to fix the road issue by ending the road before the tarmac and continuing a new dirt road.

I figured that (judging from the dark muddy color of the dirttrack, it's not just dry sand.

I googled some more and this is the closed I could find (but still not as close as what I mean, so I made a very crude scetch in paint to show a fading tire track and some scattered dirt around it, also fading):

This one came close: modder1.jpg

Edit: After long googling!! THis show pretty much what I meant a very wet dirty crossing with fading scattered dirt: :D

Yea you cant do that.... Roads in BF2 are "objects" ontop of terrain.. you cant "paint" over them...

Someone could create a road "TrackPattern" with transparent textures around those stripes of tracks, but its too much work for just that look.... I rather just paint groundtextures where I want this effect to be, leaving normal roads to be RoadObjects.. you cant mix the two of them.

But I like the pictures Donutz :D

Status of this map? An early Normandy map IMO would be well received...if it had SP of course! ;)

We are playing it in WaW and I guess Gueridan is waiting for Normandy statics

As Azreal has said, we've already played the map and it was well received, however, SP isn't included and I've only created a 64 player version. Sorry jum jum :( The map is ready for the public, but I'll wait for WaW to put together a second map pack. I think the community will enjoy this especially since I added the Tiger.

PS Yes, I am ever so patiently waiting for the Normandy statics and vegetation to replace the crappy vBF2 stuff
