I'm wondering. Are there any 3D Naval combat simulators that..-gasp- let you use a Battleship? Destroyers are boring and Submarines are so overdone I want to throw up.

There's 3D naval strategy combat simulators, but I don't think there's any that let you control a battleship in first-person (assuming that's what you mean by your reference to destroyers and subs). WWI (Battle of Jutland): Storm Eagle Studios - Distant Guns (for a great book on Jutland try The Battle of Jutland 1916 written by my grandfather... Amazon.co.uk: The Battle of Jutland 1916: Books: George Bonney) Russo-Japanese War: Storm Eagle Studios - Distant Guns

well thats 1 great thing that sets bf 1942 apart from other bf games in general...bf 42 had the best naval warfare ever seen in a game!if FH2 can bring this awesome type of combat to the new bf2 engine....then well......i salute them!!!!!!

Or, there's Enigma: Rising Tide if you want an alternate history. This does first-person subs and ships, I'm not sure what the largest ship you can play is though site

i would like to see a simulation which allows you to command a ship/flotilla in first person, not to be aiming the gun yourself. And that would be the most fun game ever.

These are looking most-promising. I tried Enigma once, but it was too buggy for my liking.

If you can find any more, I'd be most appreciative.

There used to be a game out for the PC that let you recreate the night battles off Guadalcanal and you could choose the ships, the course, and then be on that ship as they duked it out. Night battles were intense because all you saw were tracers everywhere going back and forth and occasional flashes and explosions. IIRC you could man a gun director to direct fire of the ship you chose as your flagship.

There was also a expansion that IIRC gave the Bismarck and the proposed British new battleships that were never built (Lion class?)

I want to say it was called "Naval Battles 1942-1945" and it was by a Naval Historical Group or some Military historical library group. Was a cool game at the time but obsolete graphics and game play by now.
