I was reading the news today that the Mayor of Bastogne hosted a memorial today and gave a nice little speech....at the site of Bastogne's memorial to General Patton!

WTH?

Is there a memorial to General McAuliffe? who was ordered to go in with his airborne troops and hold Bastogne with little food, insuffecient ammo, and inadequate winter clothing.. AND HELD AS ORDERED?

Is there a memorial to the Airborne troops who bore the brunt of the Assault and fought like Tigers and kept teh Germans from taking the town?

All Patton did was command the troops who broke into Bastogne and lifted the Siege. Patton should be commended for the skillful and smooth way he shifted his division 90deg to the left while still facng an enemy and drove through to Bastogne but to give him his own memorial? That is too much!

I think I remember something about there being a McAuliffe square in Bastogne.
