Interesting interview with Halfhawk from the Battlefield Pirates mod. Fast forward to half way through the video and there's a nice long(ish) interview there.

It now has aircraft; a hot air balloon and a "beer glider", literally powered by a very gaseous beer keg .

Of course aircraft needs to be countered by anti-aircraft assets ... like a parrot that can be sent off to attack ?!

They seem to have solved some problems I've seen about ... like not being able to have ladders on moving vehicles (FH dev's ?), and have some innovative game modes (see forum thread ).

Arrr... (sorry, it's obligatory).

I've lost hope in this mod long ago, They decided not to listen to the veteran pirates players, especially some of the most dedicated clans, and just did their own thing. After the first release, everybody lost hope, they lost the very small fan-base they had because they were unable to listen to any suggestion, they just shot down everything. From kooky aircraft suggestions, and interesting weapons, and even some more appropriate parachutes, were all shot down because they "were not historical". As if historical accuracy mattered much in a Pirates Mod.

Afterall the first Pirates mod for BF1942 was completely made up, with enterable Komodo Dragons, and because it was so crazy and fun, people loved it, I loved it, but BFP2 had this horrible "realism" idea clouding over it, and because of it the Developers didn't listen to anything. My clan modified the mod awhile back with some better sword fighting mechanics, fixed soldier movement, and better weapon mechanics, and It was alot of fun.

The one thing I've said about BFp2 in the beginning, and will continue to say is, They should've recreated the BFP1 gameplay first, and then extended on the mod. But instead they created this heavily unbalanced lagy asthetic fest, and it had no substance like the original mod. If I wanted realism, Id go play Battlegrounds

Realism ? This is funny. I don't think you watched the video or read the forum thread. Did you Archimonde0_0 ? They've implemented the ideas you seem to think have been rejected.

Yeah, stuffing a parrot with gun powder and setting it free can hardly be described as realistic AA means :P

No I did watch the video, and I did read the post, and I tell you know, everything Half Hawk said about them listening to the Community is a load of bullshit. Since the mod was released, every suggestion on the BFP2 forums, which I may remind you I was more than active on, Has been shot down by the BFP developers because time and again they used the word "Realistic" or "No Historical" or "Realism" and I could go through the forums and find a million quotes of such posts. And tons of Ideas which were shot down because of them.

The BFP2 devs are lying straight to our faces, they know damn well that they have shot down genuine suggestions in the past. Everything from Vehicles, to Weapons, and even Game Mechanics, all which were great ideas and fit well with pirates, and made the game that much more fun.

Just because now they have an exploding parrot, or a flying rum barrel, doesnt change the fact that they have denied time and again suggestions. When almost everybody from 3 different clans told them they needed to recreate the classic BFP gameplay before expanding BFP2, they shot us down, saying that the small amount of beta testers they actually had (Who were not avid BFP1 fans) said their release was fine, they listened to a few privelaged souls, and not the community, and they were total assholes about suggestions for months.

This is a classic example of devs getting too attached to their work.

Wow, I never new all this. I always wondered what happened to the community that existed for bfp1... Thats really a shame, too. Mods are entirely community based. If you dont have a community then you dont have a mod.

We should boycotte their mod and start our own pirate mod.

-=4th=-1/2HawkLately the strategy has been to provide way more ship vs ship action than before because BF2's strongest advantage is with the vehicles. Just realize guys that we didnt port BFP1 onto the BF2 platform - we started over with our own ideas, so just keep an open mind when R2 comes out. So far the word from the beta testers is that its a whole lot more fun than R1... so fingers crossed.

Saw this post in the Suggestion forum over at bfpirates.com.

Agreed completely. So I have no further thoughts.

EDIT: Well, one thing. I do feel the BFP2 devs are ignorant of any community suggestions. I've seen it first hand.

I haven't experienced or noticed anything of this ignoring of the community (never visisted the community in any way), but if what you're saying is true, then I get kind of upset when he's saying "the pirate theme is just a gimmick, we want to create something different!" Realism and beer-glider doesn't go well together. as well as Realism and cocounut bombs. that is just a bit too "silly" for me, but I had some fun with the first release of BFP2, and I will give this a try. never played the 1942 version though, I have looked but haven't found anything.

You must download the original Mod, and add me to Xfire, when our SD clan server has people in it, I'll let you know. The BFP1 installer can be found at BFpirates.com
