Sgt. KrotchrotWow your scary good! Remind me never to piss you off if I haven’t already. I can't keep track of all those quotes so I'll just rant. Yeah that Guadalcanal crack is chicken shit, called me on that one. You’re wrong about the Army trying to shut down the USMC. Because no way in hell would the Army want to be that near the Navy. You CAN keep them pal. If it’s wasn’t for the Marines they’d suck at every sport, but I digress. Back to marksmanship, yes the Army quit shooting the 500 yards because they went to “pop ups” which was proven to be more effective in training riflemen. The Marines stayed with the stationary silhouettes. I don’t have the specifics about Tet and will try to get them. But as I recall the 2nd Cav. Was dropped in North West of Khe Sanh with the objective of taking the hills the NVA were using to shell the base from. But like I said the Marines never broke and in fact the NVA’s last attack was far less intense than the previous ones. Again it’s probably more chicken shit than anything else. Old Sergeant Carlos Hathcock with 93 confirmed kills might be the best Marine sniper ever. But, Lee Harvey Oswald will always be the most famous Marine sniper. Thus the “misguided” part in the old saying. I can’t argue with any of your facts (what else is new) the Marines are bad asses and anyone who doubts that is just clueless. But I still think comparing the Marines to the Army is like comparing the Coast Guard to the Navy. Ones far more specialized for a particular task. One last thing though, if a warrior is someone who has experience in battle. Why do the Marines call themselves warriors’ from the get go? And uh just how big was El Duce’s boot anyway?

LOL I agree, different goals and objectives for both services. And as much as the Army likes to tease Marines imagine my poor friend who decided to join the Coast Guard.

My Marine friends and Navy friends would be "Hush, your not even in a real armed service, your in the department of Transportation. Now they are under the Department of Homeland Security"

Marines call tehmselves warriors but in bootcamp we were not warriors or even allowed to blouse our BDU pants til graduation, Once one graduates from Boot Camp then your considered a Marine, until then your still a recruit, aka maggot, etc. To instill pride and esrit de corp.

My sources mention he wore a size 10 1/2 boot.

Yeah they called us "Rocks" at Ft. Leonardwood. They would say "shake your head dick! Hear that? Hear them rocks rattle'n around your head son? Your as dumb as a box of rocks." They also called us "Rag bags" but that's a story for another day.Yeah I just read the other post on the foot size. We got to get you out in the daylight once in a while.

Heh. Well this thread is pretty much a roll call of the dear departed. It's sad.

Oh, as for the choice of service branch, well, you can use the AF and the Navy and the Army when you want nice pics of cruise missiles, laser-guided bombs and pinpoint arty strikes. And I'm glad the Coast Guard is there to recover the ganja bales and save the drowning yachtsmen.

But when the shit is coming down and there's nowhere left to run, it's gotta be the Marines.

At least Kading is not dear departed, he's just busy trying to get to Carl Vinson ready to sail ;) I talk to him on aim most weeks, he's doing good, just got his promotion to Petty Officer 3rd Class too :D
