"That's right! This is a BattleGroup42 modification to the original Battlefield Vietnam game. It is a realism mod aimed at bringing some historical accuracy to the Vietnam theatre of operations, its vehicles and maps, while introducing the features and gameplay that will be the core of our forthcoming Battlegroup42 WW2 mod." http://www.battlegroup42.com/
Well, this is news to me. I had no idea they they were going to make a realism mod for BF:V before doing their WWII mod. Doesn't that seem kind of counter-productive? They're spending time on Vietnam-era tanks and weapons, where they could be working on nice WWII models.
I'm grabbing it now, just to see what they've got done so far. Just a couple tanks and tank physics changes it looks like. I can't imagine BG-Vietnam beating out EOD in the Vietnam realism battle, but it might be good.

Realism? YEAH right lol, they even said the aim of the mod is to make it balance and fun. Have you even played it? If you did then you would have notice it takes 2-3 tank shells to destroy and apc. I shot 2 howitzers once at a tank, it was a direct hit and it survived.
I dont call that realistic.
It's not a realism mod, it's a historical accuracy mod.
Some people might like it, but I hate playing a mod where an apc has the armor of a heavy tank.
Ok, but I think think there is a fuzzy line between historical accuracy and reaism. Would you mind explaining the difference to me?
I just finished playing it myself. There's not too much to it, but I think what they've done with the tanks is good so far. I can 1-hit kill enemy tanks on the side, and they shoot much straighter and faster. I could 1-hit kill jeeps, but I never tried firing against an APC. In any case, if howitzers arn't doing enough damage, and if APC's are taking too many shots to kill, I'd assume it something they're going to deal with later. This is like VERY beta at this point.
That was the bf42 version I played, so I dont know about the bfv version or the changes. But from what ive heard they made that for balance reasons. Also playing bg44 its like playing fh when it was first release, except not as accurate.. Not a lot of vehicles as fh, etc. Even if its on the bfv engine, no way will it compete with fh.
You have the option of playing both, what would you play more? Bg44 or FH?
You're commenting on the BG-Vietnam mod and you've never tried it?
Personally, I never tried BG42, I've been happy enough with FH. I DID try XWWII.. and it left a lasting scar on my life.

The physics are the same as the bf version, the aim is the same, etc. Its like trying bf and comenting for bfv ww2 mod. The physics are the same.
I take what n0e says way too seriously

I don't think I will try BG Vietnam, just isn't my kind of mod. I will be trying BG 1.0 definitely though.
Stealth.. cripes dude, there's lots more to it than the physics. It's a completely different period of war for cring out loud.
You've probably got the right idea Kampfer. I don't think BG even intends this to be a real serious release. Just more of a test and practice for their BG release.
