How tone-deaf, how arrogant, how divorced from average everyday life do you have to be to be the world's richest person, and then talk some twaddle about how you've grown disenchanted with capitalism and think we need a different system? Bill Gates in Davos to criticize capitalism.

I hardly know where to start. It's not just that he's wrong, and that time and again capitalism has shown itself the only way for societies to make wealth for the largest numbers of its members. It's not just that he's in Davos with all the other great hypocrites of the world harrumphing about how terrible mean old capitalism is, pass the champagne and caviar, please. It's the breathtaking arrogance that this grotesquely wealthy man, who gained his obscene profits by using brutal monopolistic and anti-competitive methods which would have made him very welcome in the club for the 19th century robber-barons, now wants to put handcuffs on everyone else. What an ass. I've got mine, Jack, now let's work on being "fair" with yours.

You know, you can be smart and still be plenty stupid about a lot of things. Or is he so supremely arrogant and untouchable that he's beyond caring what everyday joes think of him?

I know if I was that rich, I wouldn't care what people think of me anymore.

As for what he's saying...he's firstly dead wrong. Those nations have collapsed economies because of decades of economic mismanagement by socialist, fascist, and authoritarian governments that have done nothing but destroy their countries means of production. If you introduced the kind of capitalist, free market into those countries...and had it ran as well as it is here...those countries would be on their feet and up again in 20 years flat. The idea that capitalism is to blame is inane...they haven't had capitalism to begin with!

He's slightly autistic, that may be it.

And if he really cared, he could just support third-world economies himself, he's got the cash.

I knew it! I always thought he had a bit of autism. Anyways, he does give quite of bit of money to charities. So let`s not rag too much on him, he has done a lot of good, except of course for the BSOD.

Yeah the whole capitalist vs socialist thing is a complete mute argument as far as I'm concerned. There simply is no better system than capitalism. It is the only reason we have global markets today and a global stock exchange. It is the only reason that entrepreneurs can compete on a global scale should they desire. It's also extremely convenient that countries with a completely or at least partially capitalist economic system are thriving and are not 3rd world nations.

The answers have already been carved in the rock, and Bill Gates is just a part of that as any body else. Yes, he's a hypocrite, and yes he is wrong. Sure Gates, lets all switch over to socialism for a few years and find out what it feels like to live in 1970's France.

My personal opinion is I am for a capatalist government with a touch of socialism, like socialized medicine. I mean our Social Security system is technically socialist, but a purely socialist government, never works, it's been proven. Although, communism in essence is the best form of government, but it can never exist as it is meant too, the equality and commonuity brought about real communism is great, but human nature just can't allow it, it's a utopian society that just won't work.
