through quite a few threads i noticed how some people in this forum use the term "smacktard" quite literally and throw around the word "unskilled". let me elaborate. whenever someone voices their own opinion on how they dont mind bailing, vehicle stealing, and base camping, about 98% of this forum jumps and yells "SMACKTARD!" or "desert combat noob" without really making an intelligent counter-point, or even just respecting that person's opinion and leaving them alone. (side note: i for one HATE the word smacktard or noob, especially when grown men like us say it. makes me shudder, just call the guy anything else but that.) i am one of those people that dont mind the back-base stealing, vehicle nabbing, bailing and so on. i understand the aim of the mod is to eventually phase these things out, but for now when maps allow it, why get so worked up? this might seem like a pointless thread but im tired of people hating so much when those tactics can really actually help your team. for those people that say "ur not helping ur team win by base raping" well, if its not effective, then why do people get so pissed off about it? it really does work. takes out many key tanks, keeps the enemy distracted from the front lines, disrupts their coodination. same as vehicle nabbing. taking an enemy's tank and keeping it (especially on a tank-limited map like berlin or falaise) is a HUGE turn in events. u have the decided advantage and plus its great punishment for someone bailing from their tank. i guess what im trying to say is, that i dislike closeminded people that automatically assume you have no skill/respect for the game just cause u pull these tactics, and yes, they are tactics. i bet you in a clan match any one of u would use these. (although i realize the majority of FH is played in pubs where its meant for fun). im not saying FH needs to stop making push maps, anti-base camping territories, or stuff like that, i just think that the attitude of the general communtity should be a little more open. END RANT

edit: also im tired of people using the term bunny-hopping so loosely. 1) its another tactic, if the game lets u and its not a glitch, use it. and if u say it doesnt work, then just shoot the guy. 2)BF42 wont even let u bunny hop. jumping around continuously IS NOT bunny hopping. for any of u old schoolers, bhopping is when u jump to continually gain unlimited foward speed. so what happens in BF is more...pogo-sticking.

The problem with "intelligent argument" on this point is that it doesn't work. Everyone has tried it at one point. It just doesn't work.

Guy A: I hate it when people camp uncapturable bases.

Guy B: It's a valid tactic!

Guy A: I see your point, but I really think it upsets the flow of the map. You see, uncapturable bases normally represent the place on the map where reinforcements are entering, distant airfields and artillery positions, and so on, and they are normally incorporated into the map as such. They'll have lighter defences, as they represent a starting point, not a fortified position.

Guy B: stfu u r just pissed b/c u suck

Guy C: fu ur mama sucks

Guy B: wtf

Guy A: No, please, hear me out. Base camping disrupts the enemy team, but at the expense of gameplay and enjoyment. In that regard, how is it different from hacking or glitch exploiting? One guy blowing up tanks as they spawn and mowing down infantry may be having fun, but he's ruining the map for nearly everyone else.

Guy B: OMG u r just mad b/c u suck so bad. just shoot them.

Guy A: I didn't say there was no solution to the problem, I just said it's annoying when it happens...

Guy B: stfu

Guy A: What? I'm just trying to make a point...

Guy C: ur mama makes a point

Guy A: Please, fellows, I presented a clear, logical argument...

Guy B: if u suck so bad just go play on a different server

Guy A: Listen...

Guy D: It's my game, I can play it however I want

Guy B: Yeah, it's not my fault you suck so bad

Guy A: Alright, you know what? F*** you, and f*** you, and f*** you, you lame-ass base camping smacktards, you can go suck on a ****! F*** you!

Most of us are at the last stage by now. The game has been out for years, everything from bunnyhopping to basecamping to using planes to bomb tanks (I've seen it before, someone called it smacktard behavior...) has been discussed endlessly. It starts out intelligently enough, but you can only have your intelligent argument ignored so many times before you start reverting to calling every bunnyhopper a smacktard.

And by the way, back capping and base camping aren't lifestyle choices, hippy. Don't call those of us who don't like them "close minded."

i would say the term "smacktard" is used and the hate so intense, is because the mod has been unable to remove these included features of the bf42 engine. even though its widely known that these abilities are unwanted in this mod, by those that actually work to make it. some people insist on using them anyways, instead of respecting the spirit of the mods overall goal. which is as much realism and historical accuracy as is possible, and still remain fun to play. and then they(smacks) come here (these forums) trying to defend why these features are ok...and that they should remain. like all those that came here bitching about ABC code when it was first introduced, or push maps. the reason the mod was originally begun, was to try and make a more realistic and historical experience for the players. and these tactics you describe go completely against this mods overall ideology. i mean think about it,why would the devs put in ABC code, no chutes for flyers, and every other "arcade style play" ending feature that they have, if it was a wanted gameplay aspect of the mod? if any of these could be truly gotten rid of, and not possible in anyway, do you think they would still be in the mod...NO. so to come into FH and these forums and insist these are ok, and these are ingame so live with it, and im gonna do them anyway, is snubbing your nose at the devs and their mod, and you are messing with what they are trying to achieve. really if you cant respect what the mods about, and what its intentions are, then you are playing the wrong mod. so you shouldnt be surprised at the negative responses you see here.

I think there are plenty of people on these forums (and FH players in general) capable of holding a civilized, rational dialogue about aspects of gameplay without it degenerating into kiddie namecalling.

For example I've had some fairly strong differences of opinion with Badsseed about things like uncap flag camping; nonetheless, I think we both managed to keep it reasonably civil. It's a game, the object is to have fun.

As for "smacktards", gee, just ignore it. I prefer "muppets". :-)

hahaha. GI Bob has a point. It always ends in a flame war sooner or later. You cant really stop it. So just ignore the SMACKTARD or NOOB screamers and give him props on his point.
