For all you who play Company of Heroes, and like FH you absolutly must check out this mod. Its like nothing Ive ever played before.

Europe in Ruins is a persistant web based mod that imo, makes CoH exactly the tactical squad based wargame that it should have been.

The mod is divided into two parts, the website, and ingame. On the website, you make your own division, choose your doctrine, purchase units, upgrades and abilities, and organize your forces into platoons. Then ingame, you either attack or defend. There is no base building, no build order, no tech tree, no reinforcements, no resources, just good ol tactical combat. You call in the forces that you bought on the website, and fight with the other team for zone control. The actual gameplay and unit stats are very similar to vanillia coh, but you have to be really cautious with your junk. Now, this is the really cool part. Your units are persistant. That is, they carry over between games. They earn veterency in battle, and stay in your division. When you retreat a unit, they run off the battlefield, and you cant call them in again. But they dont die, and you can use them in the next battle. This adds so much tactical depth its crazy. Its crushingly sad when you loose a vet3 squad that have been fighting with you for weeks. These tutorial videos offer a way beter explination.

The comunity is really really good and helpful, and they have thier own vent channel . If you like CoH, but didnt really like the "rts" part of it, then for the love of god, try out Europe in ruins.

Wow nice find there, McGibs. I always just wanted to play COH like a regular fighting RTS without all the weird base building. I just reinstalled COH, and set up my company online, but there are no servers up? Hmm... I guess it's just not prime time?

Are there usually people playing?

Theres almost always people playing. Ive never had a problem getting a game going.

But its alot different then it is in Vcoh.

You need to get into ventrillo, and organize a game with the guys in there. Start up the EiR launcher (not the actual game) and a game will pop up when a room is created. After everyone is ready, it will distribute all the company files (how it keeps track of all the units. you wont see any games in coh because you arnt sincronized with anyone) and then it will launch CoH. Then you login like normal, and someone should make the actual game, which will show up in the game list.

I played three 3v3s today with great fun. The battles usually last about 45 min until one team gets pushed off the map when they have no more reinforments. So far this has always been the axis, because americans have a seemigly endless supply of freaking riflemen. No matter how many of them you force to retreat offmap, theres always anouth 8 squads to replace them.

hmm... I tried that. Maybe I was just on at a bad time. I'll try again tomorrow -- this looks too amazingly cool to pass up. God, I don't even want to think of HOW they accomplished something like persistent RTS play in a mod.
