I know there was a post from the developers earlier, but I hadn't seen any announcing the release. It's a "Normandy" US vs.Germany modification for Red Orchestra.
I just had time to download, install, and fool with the "practice mode" before going to work. My impressions are that it's well done; things look good and the maps are generous in size. Fiddled with a Sherman for a few minutes; seems the turret traverse speed is on average a bit slower than most of the RO armor. Didn't have a chance to play with any of the German armor, but they have a good variety; yes, there's a Tiger. The two maps I played around on were both very dark; I can see I might be driven to distraction trying to pick out enemy hiding in the hedgerows.
I didn't make it!
Thanks for the review Bikewer. I was thinking of getting the mod, but didn't know much about it.
A small patch for the first release and a new map can be downloaded from their page now. It is important to follow the instructions in the first post because the new installer has some issues. Darkest Hour: Normandy 1944 - Patch and Instructions
The old thread about the release with some comments/reviews is here: http://forums.filefront.com/fh-off-topic/363530-darkest-hour-press-release-2-weeks-until-d-day.html
I had some problems installing my first download; seems they had put in the path wrong. I went to forums and found the apology... Downloaded the file with the patch included and it worked fine.
