Since FH must live with the BF limitations I was thinking (yeah I get lucky sometimes). Currently the fog distance is like 400m(virtual). Is it possible to scale down the stuff in BF or are we limited to the scale that Dice gave us?

I know this is totally hypothetical and was just wondering.

It is possible to change the distance, but the mapper has to consider the ability of the machines of the players to handle it without too much slowdown.

I talked to an XWW2 mapper a year or so ago, and he showed me pics of a test map he made where the fog distance was 3km or so. He placed two lines of tanks 2km apart, one Allied and one Axis. They were almost invisible, and he never managed to hit a single one. BF's tank gun aiming system is not accurate enough to handle hitting a target from such a distance.

The idea behind it was to keep the engine as it is now and change the scale of all. Changing the fog distance would not help because the models are not/hardly visible beyond a certain range due to optimisations in the engine.

ok, in other words you ask if reducing the size of everything would help?... Humm, i'd think it would only do the samething, and it would take ages to rescale everything...

And, it could become very cramped for all those vehicles to be in. Probably would end up being too much fuss and work for nothing.

Komrad_Bok, in other words you ask if reducing the size of everything would help?... Humm, i'd think it would only do the samething, and it would take ages to rescale everything...
Well not that I am demanding it or anything since I know the mod is "as is" for the rest of its bf42-life.(at least scale wise)

Just as an idea in case there are other people reading or for porting to a new engine.
And, it could become very cramped for all those vehicles to be in. Probably would end up being too much fuss and work for nothing.

Why cramped?

I think it would be an improvement because it would increase the size of the game without really increasing anything. One of my biggest griefings about mods under the bf42 engine is that you cannot see anything after a certain distance and when you do you are in each others fireing range. (worse for planes/tanks)

Like I said, just a crazy thought for possible future/other mods.

I remember those days of XWWII, Lateralus. You were a member of a clan I was interested in joining.

The map looked interesting, but again, you can't hit shit at those ranges. Thanks DiCE..

@[11PzG] USMA2010: Well that would be a job for the planes and artillery or not? I think it would be cool.
