Received this email from Regenbogenkaempfer

EA Kill BF 1942? End of BF 1942?:

Spoiler: Show

RBK- NorwegianRes 086b FH 0.7 80.190.251.201:14567 RBK-Server.de 80.190.246.101:14567 RBK-Server.de El Alamein only (mod) 87.106.221.205:14567 !

So according to that, the ingame browser has not worked in 17.9.2008. Just tried it out, and without any filters it found only 7 servers, so apparently it's true.

Recently ASE terminated as well, it's not very nice for the basic playerbase. What's left, game-monitor?

They did this without any notice.. :Puzzled: though it could be some maintenance as well. Probably not, knowing EA (C&C etc.)

I'm gonna need some better proof. I mean, I think they'd send an alert before they did something like that.

I never spend a penny on anything that has remotely to do with EA, and i will keep it that way.

There are problems with bf2's ingame browser as well, so I assume they are not pulling the plug. Some sort of maintenance is my guess.

Maybe then. But you know the case with Command & Conquer games (Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2), EA terminated the servers, disabling all multiplayer modes. However, it was taken over by XCC and strike-team.net. Yeah, the biggest video game publisher with a revenue of $4.02 billion USD can't afford to keep the servers online, while a community with random donaters can.

They also shut down the servers of that rpg-game that even had monthy subscription fees.. hmm what it was called?

Hopefully it's just a maintenance then..

I recieved the same e-mail 2day by regenboogkaepfer, but i think it is related to the same issue's Bf2 had ATM. I would be worried unless it is not fixed within a week.

Ea's servers have been down sice 2005 if i remeber correctly (look in the manual : EA holds itself the right to support servers untill a certain date. afther this, Ea no longer needs to run servers os this game.)

EA don't run these servers, they are owned by GameSpy. But yes, they have been boned this week.

Why? Do you mean there's some technical reason? I always thought that the concept of a game company "supporting" one of their games just meant they were still fixing glitches, and maybe doing something or other to prevent hacking/cheating. (Was I wrong?) But you make it sound as if the only reason non-EA servers can host the game is because EA beams a magic BF42 ray through its series of geosynchronous satellites; and in the ray is electronic code that tells slave servers all over the world that it is okay to allow BF42 play - and once the magic beam stops......pfffffft! There's no choice about it - the game just can not be played.

Or do you mean there is a legal, proprietary reason?
