It's about time I posted. I just thought I'd start a thread on what your favourite WWII (or war) game is. These are mine: Story - MoH: Pacific Assault Realism - Red Orchestra Gameplay - Company of Heroes All of the above - Forgotten Hope :) (I think this thread has been done before...)

Well Forgotten Hope 2 and Forgotten Hope naturally, but lets see some other WW2 games that I have enjoyed in the past and now in the present:

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault used to be so great, in both single- and multiplayer. From the intense Omaha Beach experience to the gloomy german villages with snipers everywhere... this was the best ww2 game yet and imho the last good Medal of Honor game (Spearhead was great aswell, but thats an expansion pack).

Day of Defeat was such a great game back then aswell and I was so disappointed how Day of Defeat Source turned out to be such a rubbish game. Only HL mod I really enjoyed playing back then, sadly I didnt play it that much as I never had it on my own.

Company of Heroes and its Opposing Fronts expansion is a WW2 game I play a lot these days, altho I must admit that when its great mod Battle of the Bulge came out, I havent played the vanilla games that much. Heck, I still got british and german campaigns to finish, I should look into those...

Battlefield 1942 used to be the best ww2 experience, well, before Forgotten Hope anyways. This one doesnt need explanation much, does it? Its the game that started it all. I liked the Road To Rome expansion pack quite a lot, and to me that was the last true Battlefield game. Everything from there was just a downfall, and so far the drop is still going and the bottom of the pit cant be seen.

Then we have the Call of Duty series which in my opinion ceased to amaze, entertain and capture the intense moments when the second game came out on PC. I never played the console versions, so I only talk about the PC games. Now, Call of Duty and its expansion set United Offensive were the best ones of the series and I still consider them as one of the best WW2 shooters out there. Nothing like the wild car ride across Normandy countryside, the crossing of volga and the mad dash on the Red Square. Not to mention very good moments in the expansion. Memorable events which the game series later tried to mimic, but imho failed. Nothing has captured the same feeling like these two games. Call of Duty 2 started the downfall, and so far none of the new releases has amazed me.

This thread just made me realize something: I don't have a favorite ww2 game. :(

Although if you'd make me pick, I'd say Brothers in Arms Earned in Blood, and Hells Highway.

Well first of all FH...

Then: Company of Heroes, great and quite innovative RTS-game, perhaps not very realistic but tactical nonetheless. BTW, seems like there is a new addon coming out, you play the crew of a Tiger tank (wittmann style) which you can level like in a role playing game or something. There are also rumors about an intro of this addon that apparently plays in Leningrad... Call of Duty 1 + United Offensive was great, Call of Duty 2 was also nice, but there was one problem about the single player mode: to many germans that just kept respawning over and over again. really killed the immersion for me at some point. The best thing about CoD1 was the dam level, because I live like 16 kilometres away from that dam and believe me, it really looks like that ;). Everytime I cross it now I see the evil nazis and Flak guns there and where you have to plant your charges. I´m still wondering where this airfield you are fleeing to in the next level is supposed to be. CoD4 single player was fun, but that is no WW2 game and I really hate that achievement crap (that they apparently ported to CoD5)... I only ever played MoH Pacific Assault, which had its moment, but was inferior to CoD, as far as I am concerned. One classic I want to mention is Steel Panthers of World War II. I could spend hours playing that game and the Windows version can be downloaded for free, so if you´re into hex games give it a try. That game has virtually every tank or weapon used in WW2, even the weirdest shit imaginable, and you can play the Spanish civil war, too.

edit: Oh right, Brothers in Arms, i played the first two games and they were really fun, but sort of repetitive.

BF42 was soooo cool when it was released. And it still is, thanks to Forgotten Hope and FinnWars.

IL-2 series, THE flight simulator and one of the best games ever.

Theatre of War and Soldiers: Heroes of World War 2 are my favourite WWII RTS's.

Medal of honor: Underground, Red Orchestra: Ostfront 1941-1945, Day of Defeat and Silent Hunter 4 are also worth mentioning.

Edit: Oh, I forgot FH 2.15 ;d

I really enjoy playing Steel Panthers: World at War, Silent Hunter series, Hidden & Dangerous series, CODs and - despite all of their silliness - Silent Storm series (I love the engine and turn based mode). FH pretty much tops them all, tho.
